ERIC EDEN & THE DALEKS

Woodsy's previous post about what appeared to be a fan produced booklet based on the Dalek strips in TV Century 21, had me dig out my old Marvel Doctor Who Monthly magazine special from 1994.

Although we've seen quite a few examples of Richard Jenning's and Ron Turner's work on the Dalek strip, I thought it would be nice to show Eric Eden's small contribution for a change, which more or less divided the point between Jennings and Turners artwork (Ron did complete the final two pages of the last Jenning's story).

The story was given the title ,' The Archives of Phryne', at some point during one of it's later reprints. 

The strip originally began in TV Century 21 issue 52, the same issue which saw the Thunderbirds strip start. It finished in issue 58. Eric's really accurate renditions of the Daleks leads me to suppose he must have had a few reference photos from the Aaru film, Dr Who and The Daleks,

CAPTAIN SCARLET WALLPAPER FROM CROWN 1968

Back in one of February's TV21's in 2068 you could Captain Scarlet to the max! 

Not only could you get a Spectrum Handbook from Barratt's Sweets, if you were lucky enough you could get your bedroom decorated with super cool Crown Captain Scarlet Wallpapers too!

I wonder if any of our readers did? If not the Captain then what was your bedroom wallpaper like?

THE FUTURE IS COMING

In a month's time my mate, Andy and I will depart for darkest Maidenhead, and the Future is Fantastic Fanderson convention.

It has reminded me that I first met our man, Woodsy in person, at the previous' TV21'  Fanderson convention way back in 2010.

In those fledgling days of the blog, I was but a humble, but enthusiastic contributor, and used the camera on my phone to take pictures. Luckily, my mate Andy had a much better camera and was able to take a few close ups of some of the attending guests, including Gerry Anderson and puppet sculptor, John Blundall, both who are sadly no longer with us.

Other guests from that convention included voice artist Gary Files (pictured below), who was the voice of Captain Magenta in Captain Scarlet and The Mysterons, and Matthew Harding in The Secret Service.

Model maker and designer, Mike Trim, and model maker Alan Shubrook, (both pictured below) talked about their days at Century 21, and working with 'The Guv'nor', Derek Meddings.

There were quite a few original models too, mainly from Space: 1999.

To pinch a phrase from Woodsy, the whole event was champion!

TV21 DALEKS PROOF BOOK?

There is mention on Amazon of this TV21 book - here: "TV Century 21 Complete Dalek Strips In One Exciting Book Ultra Rare Proof Book".

It is described as:

"A fantastic 100 page Complete Dalek Comic Strips as they appeared in the TV Century 21 Comics of the 1960's. This book is one of the very few proofs that was made to be approved for a book release. Sadly, the book never went to print, hence the reason why it is so very very rare. Every comic strip that was produced for the comics, have been reproduced in this book, in full colour."

Now I know nothing about this proof book but the mention of TV21 drew me there. I'm not a big Dalek fan so I can't comment on its rarity. However, the publication in the pictures looks a lot like a report I might have done in my office, with a plastic cover and a plastic spine!

Does anyone know anything about it?
