MY FIRST PARCEL

I wrapped up my first sale in the re-opened attic this morning.

A 1980's Barbie Gym no less!

It'll go to the Post Office later today.

Wrapping it was a first small step in the latest chapter as an Ebay seller, which began all those years ago in the year 2000, when Ebay started up in the UK [five years after the USA I think?]

Back in 2000 we lived in a different house, where I had an even bigger room to play with, an entire cellar, which I'd turned into an 'old toy shop' in the early 1990's. It was definately a fun hobby.

All before Ebay existed, back then I supplied toy fans with stuff via mail order and also personal customers who visited on the weekend by appointment. All great fun after a boring week at work! I was called Moon Zero Toys. I even took it on the road and had a stall at toy fairs!

HARRY'S OPEN!

 I've opened up Harry [the attic] and retirement sorting/ perusing/ pondering/staring through the window/Ebaying has resumed.

The old Mad About Monsters desk is once more alive and kicking.

I have a friendly old wizard to add some magic!

Once you start rummaging its amazing what pops up!

These old Walls et al cards are gorgeous and I'm pretty sure I had some as a kid. Did you?

Pretty much everything I loved as a little 'un is pictured including deep sea frogmen!

Thunderbirds-like crabloggers!

Undersea bases and sleek jets!

What more could you want!

Maybe an old game from those golden years, Twister by MB. Now that was a crazy family pastime, stretching across a plastic mat in your socks! Phew! A classic and a symbol of the Sixties for me.

I'VE OPENED UP HARRY!*

 Way back in the Autumn of 2005, after 20 years, I gladly ended my first office 'career' and took the plunge into selling old toys full time on Ebay.

I traded as Mad About Monsters. It was great fun and my office was in the attic, repleat with old dial telephone, colour TV and laptop. 

After 3 years of solid Ebaying on top of a part-time school job [ and clocking up thousands of sales, I finally closed the books and the attic door in the autumn of 2008. Mad About Monsters was sadly over.

Well, today, as part of my retirement from School, I once again opened up Harry*

I have been in the attic many times since 2008 but not with Ebay on my mind.

I have kept a gangway clear throughout though!

and tried to keep some sort of order.

Boxes are decently stacked ...

Part of my own collection has shelving up there too.

But there's too much other gear generally! leftovers from Ebaying and clutter from our house.

With a corner for our daughter's old stuff too!

And so, with a smile on my older face and sweeping aside a few dead wasps from my old Ebaying desk, I set up the 'office' once more!

The Velux view over the fields hasn't changed, which is really great.

.... but my old analogue miniature TV, as always, was just snow.

It was really exciting to get back up there and list on Ebay again, albeit no longer as Mad About Monsters and being far less serious about it than I was back then.

I'm really looking forward to listing all the old toys and games that are surplus to requirements in the attic and maybe even make room for more of my own collections stored in my bedroom!

Retirement has well and truly begun!

* I call the attic Harry after the tunnels in the movie The Great Escape: Tom, Dick and Harry. Tom was discovered and Harry was then opened up. Dick was never used.

ANOTHER CINEMA CLOSED!

Hi there, Further to your Attic horror stories, i have my own to add to the pile..

My home cinema was hit badly by Covid and the bush fires and became an inadvertent dumping ground. I need to sort it out as I can't enjoy it!

LOFT AND BOUND

 So this is the scene of the crime! The sorry-looking loft ladder which fell apart with me on it [I'm recovering well thanks, been to work today]!

Good job there's nothing we need from the attic now because a handyman has today taken it down and screwed the hatch shut until we get it repaired or replaced by a joiner.

Its full to the rafters with our stuff. We had the floor strengthened 20 years ago so it should hold.

Just hope we haven't locked anyone up there ... besides Action Man that is, but he's a survivor I reckon!

MOONBASE DAUGHTER'S CHILDHOOD TOYS DOWN FROM THE LOFT

 We're having a big sort-out at Moonbase.

All our grown-up daughter's toys have come out of the attic for a toy fair she wants to stand at this Spring to make a few quid.

As expected we have been engaged as sorters and cleaners and no doubt couriers too!

Its all mostly from the 1980's and 90's with some vintage stuff as well. We went to car boots back then too!

We have bagged McDonalds toys.

Doll's furniture and a troll.

Vintage boxed Sindy furniture. Daughter played with them and put them back in the boxes. We trained her well!

Lots of loose Sindy furniture and Cabbage Patch Kids.

Odds n sods. Action Force SAS, family Ted, She Ra or Princess of Power?

Littlest Pet Shop and Princess Magic Touch Garden Swing.

Plastic doll's furniture.

Cherry Merry Muffin boxes.

Doll's clothes for washing.

One of several boxes of mixed goodies.

Cleaning station for plastic.

There's so much more to sort out too. Phew!

We will be sad to see it go after 37 years storage though.

SNOW ON THE TELLY

Whilst checking for missing Christmas baubles I found our old portable black and white telly in the attic. A right blast from the analogue past!

It has a massive curved glass screen and huge behind, all topped off with an Area 51 style aerial! Classic three-channel heaven!

I turned it on hoping for an episode of Thunderbirds or Marine Boy for Christmas but all I got was snow!

Which Christmas TV programme would you liked to have seen on this old telly?

STATIC FROM THE ATTIC

 I ventured into our attic today.

Hard to believe this used to be the office for my international power selling ebay toy shop 15 years ago! What a mess!

At least one corner is more or less tidy!

I went up to find a Century 21 Mobile Tank turret that Wotan gave me 12 years ago. As expected I didn't find it but I did unearth lots of old tat toys!

A very tall knockoff [KO] Spidey from a Greek holiday I think.

An old colouring book with a gorgeous space cover, one of the first things I ever found at a car boot sale, maybe 25 years ago.

Old super hero stuff, calender, paper cups and easter egg boxes. I kept everything!

Vintage games including one from Zodiac Toys, my fave toy shop when I was a lad.

Another Mediterranean holiday find from years ago. Mystery Man. I love this Batman KO!

The pose of Mystery Man looks familiar. Ring any bells?

A more recent morsel. Gorilla! Old Kongy has light-up eyes and likes to eat rockets - alas not included - but I did get a plastic palm. From a pound shop about 10 years ago.

Ahh, our old black and white telly! me and the Missus watched everything on it at one time when we were just married paupers in the early 80's. A casualty of the tech wars now. You'd just get static from its analog brain. What would Alexa say?

And even older, a Rosedale electric organ, the very same model I had as a kid in the 60's. I adored this instrument and when I saw one at a car boot about 15 years ago I snapped it up. The reedy misty sound is amazing and even David Bowie thought so too. He used one on his first album Space Oddity on a track called Memory of a Free Festival!
