Hi, I purchased one of these Sealab aquarium items today at a thrift store. I came across your website mentioning them. 

It doesn't appear to have been removed from the box as it looks tied down inside. The box says 1971. There is still plastic around the box as well.

Can anyone tell me anything more about it?

A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUK

Aquarium ornaments have appeared on MC a few times. My contribution was a cast resin version of a WW2 Sherman tank that I found in a pet shop.

You asked if there were any real vehicles still down on the seabed. Well here is the cover of the May 1976 National Geographic magazine. It contains an article on the sunken Japanese ships in Truk Lagoon, in the Pacific. During the war, Truk was a major Japanese base, and was therefore heavily bombed by the Americans.

The cover shows a Japanese Type 95 Ha-Go light tank on the sea floor, now covered in marine life. It is probably still there. Thought it might be of interest.

Submerged Sherman

Having seen a number of posts on Moonbase Central about aquarium decorations, I thought I would call in at a pet shop and see what they had to offer. 

Wow, what a great selection of painted resin castings. It is no longer just treasure chests, and sunken galleons (but no deep sea divers). 

Sunken ruins - Roman, Egyptian, Mayan, and even Easter Island heads, barrels (of rum ?), amphora, cars, steam engines, several aircraft, and even this item - a WW2 Sherman Tank. 

This is by Exotic Environments, and is number EE-272 Army Tank with Cave, Made in China. Copyright date 2012. It has clearly taken a battering, and has a large hole through the centre for small fish to swim through. 

Length including base 86 mm. Mainly painted in various shades of green, with silver detailing on the tracks and engine grilles, plus a little black and brown. 

Another addition to the strange Shermans file.
