Arto at Vintageland 2025

A couple of weekends back, with Vintageland and the Old Toy Swap coinciding, it was Heaven on Earth!

 I got to spend a good three hours at Vintageland on Saturday, and then a second serving on Sunday. On Saturday, I managed to visit also the Swap for its final hours.

My purchases were mostly smalls, except, finally, for a complete Clifford Batmobile (that beacon is the tricky part). It was a long journey, but well worth it!

I found an interesting lot of vintage pencil sharpeners, some by German manufacturer KUM, in various guises (mini television, revolver, football, abacus, automobile), plus a lot of plastic sheriff badges by a Finnish manufacturer Plasto.

 They were 1950's chocolate premiums, and there was an individual badge made for every U.S. state!

 Bought also that Heinerle Manurba Tarzan figure, remembering your great Tarzan recreations.

JOE'S DINER: TWO CHROME FENDERS PLEASE!

 Joe's Diner from Clifford Toys was the final plastic vehicle kindly donated by Bill that I had a go at doing up this week.

A gorgeous Sixties friction toy, it was basically all there except for a front grille, two bumpers and a couple of lights.

Oh, and Joe himself and his sunroof.

After a soapy bath, a rub down and a lighter liquid wash, I set to on the missing large front grille, cobbling one together from bits in my box and a patch of netting from an old bag. The C in the middle stands for Clifford I presume.

Complete and re-chromed, it wasn't the best job I'd done but looked OK' ish. I think I rushed it. A bit of old kit sprue with boiling-water bent-ends made a simple bumper. Two red lights finished the front.

Nothing to be done on the sides.

The rear just needed another bumper, once again a sprue did the trick.

Joe's still missing so no hot dogs just yet. Oh, and the sun roof!

Little jobs, big jobs. I'll keep you posted.

UNBRANDED T IN A CIRCLE MERCURY MARK SPACE SHIP

I used to be a big collector of T in a Circle/ Tai Hing plastic toys.

One I haven't got is the Mercury Mark IV Space Ship like this one I saw online.

Its a lovely thing but this particular one appears to have no branding. Not T in a Circle/ Tai Hing, nothing.

I can see wording on the battery cover which I think says Made in Hong Kong.

PETE H'S CRAGSTAN CAR TRANSPORTER

Car Transporter: as I understand it if it was imported in to the UK then it was sold under the Clifford Brand , imported into the USA it became Cragstan 

I managed to pick mine up on Ebay from the USA , its only when I was looking at one of my searches Racing Car Transporters that a white Clifford came up , I always like to put a suitable car with the Transporter and while researching Clifford the Speed King sets came up which started life with the Jaguar D Type 

Use the photos as you wish , I will use them on my site www.historicspeed.com in due course , not as good as yours , if the gallery does not come up , leave it a while and then try again.

MOON TRAFFIC MOON LANDING LEM AND CAPSULE

I'm used to seeing Moon Traffic carded toys that look like this one by Clifford toys, the project M8.

So I was pleasantly surprised to see this version of Moon Traffic online and one completely new to me.

The lettering is different as is the card art. The strapline, Space Miniatures with Astronaut, is the same as is the position of the toy astronauts [two of them!]

This set is a neat moon landing style blue Capsule/ LEM combo, which I'm pretty sure I've seen before.

Its interesting that the set appears to be called Prospector, a name we usually associate with the round wheeled moon rover. Or is the name Projector?

My plastic Clifford Racing Team Transporter is a yellow one. The stickers on the side are different, Racing Team this time. I do have a Land Rover, Hong Kong plastic too with exactly the same sticker on its side. 

I guess somehow Clifford and co planned some kind of a set?

KEVIN'S CLIFFORD GEMINI CAPSULE

Hi MB,

Having seen that ad in a recent blog post [ below. Ed. ] here are some pictures of my Clifford toys Gemini. I had one of these as a kid, so was really pleased to get one off ebay a few years ago. This is a stunningly accurate toy, all of the detail on the surface shingles and the orbital module seem really right to me. Mine is missing one crewman sadly, but they hadn't really worked out all of the problems with EVA in those days.
