Related to your recent post about Imai “Mighty Jack” models, here are internet grabs of some of the boxes from this great series. I own none of these - wish I did!

There's some amazing space planes in this Japanese TV series. Its not a series I know but I came across toys relating to it when I started the blog. There's something Project SWORDesque about the MJ logo and the vehicles.

LOTS OF TINY MINIATURES

For years I've been collecting miniature Japanese collectables called Omake.

These capsule toys were issued by sweet companies like Glico, Lotte and Morinaga.

Tracking down the exact toys you want is a time-consuming business and I have to be honest and admit I haven't found any more Project SWORD miniatures for at least 2 years, despite knowing there are more out there [I lost some Noppin auctions].

Anyways here are a few pictures of lots I saw this year which caught my eye.

This lot has a tiny LP-style raygun toting blue astronaut. There's also a small silver jetplane, which reminds me of the silver missile jets in the JR21 Submarine Aircraft Carrier [see labels at bottom]. There's also a pinky silver jetplane, which recalls a Mighty Jack rocketship [see labels].

What do you think?

Here's a lot containing a neat UFO. It looks like the central red ball spins. Overall it recalls the T in a Circle UFO toy as well [see labels].

Last is this lot. The blue capsule is pretty neat and it looks like there's a tiny astronaut in there too. the small yellow spinner next to it is cool too. It may be a spinner as well.

mystery mighty jack boat

This space boat looked familiar when I saw it on the Bay this year.

Its Japanese, by Bandai and the arrowhead decals suggest Mighty Jack. No idea what this vehicle is called. You?

It does remind me of another futuristic boat we've featured before.

The Wasser Spinne or Water Spider.

Two versions were released, one by T in a Circle [Tai Hing] and the other Yone I think.

The Mighty Jack boat at the top also nods towards the worlds of Gerry Anderson I would say. There's a look of Stingray in there and even a hint of the Project SWORD Scout 1[below] with those distinctive side engines.

Side nacelles like these were a favourite of TV21 illustrators and none moreso than the great Mike Noble who's 1966 Sea Bug used them to full effect. 

Having corresponded with Mike, both he and I are in agreement that his design could well have been the inspiration for the Scout 1 toy.

Blimey, this Japanese MIGHTY JACK clip on You Tube is so Andersonesque its untrue! Its very UFO. See what you think. Anyone watched lots of Jack?

Mighty Jack!

I first came across Mighty Jack [MJ] in Dennis Nicholson's bible back in the mid-1990's, where the Imai model kits are described. Since then I am not the only one who noticed a resemblance between Japan's Mighty Jack arrowhead emblem and that of the UK's Project SWORD. I featured an MJ toy on the blog in its first few months I seem to remember,

Both SWORD and Mighty Jack, were contemporaries in 1968, had amazing space-age machines and similar world peacekeeping roles, Mighty Jack being the name of the 11 agents who made up the organisation.

Reader and friend Arto agrees with me that MJ is So Gerry Anderson, so Thunderbirds! Here's the Wiki site and Arto has pointed out this taster of the original Japanese series of 13 episodes in 1968. Two of the episodes appeared in the States in 1986 as a film. Did anyone see it?

Anyways, here's a sample of some of the toys and kits I've seen online. There are more over on the cool Kaiju Korner blog.
