Hello Woodsy,

me, the Missus and a bunch of long time fans went to the flicks to see "Fantastic Four :First Steps" this evening. Anyone seen it?

We all seemed to like it. I was especially pleased to see Galactus finally given a decent big screen treatment (now, if only we could get him to fight Unicron!)

My pal Graeme Batho showed he some pics on his phone and I chortled at this Aussie style post box decorated as Thunderbird 2 ( or is it 6?)

Then he made it clear he'd actually done it himself and I was even more impressed!

HI YA! OUR CUSTOM MULTIPLE TOYMAKERS KUNG FU TARGET SET DONE!

  I'm pleased to show you our latest team effort readers, a custom Kung Fu Target Set finished.

Here it is booted and suited.

Bill created the fabulous graphics based on the original card by Multiple Toymakers released in 1975. It required some custom artistic licence on Bill's part on the 100 section, as the original was hidden from view and no loose card could be found online so it could be seen.

I had fun sorting out the toys and the blister; the horse and rider were from my bits box and needed a little tinkering; the toy revolver was from the local farmshop and got a lick of paint and a white grip; the target card clasps were plug fuse covers from the DIY box [the target cards were part of the backing card and had to be cut out originally in 1975].

As always the blister was tricky and in the end I used the original blister off the farmshop cowboy set I bought and cut it up to create two suitable shapes to glue down.

Here's a comparison with the the original toy; 1975 on the left and our 2025 custom on the right.

I forgot about the dart! Doh!

Fantasy Box Art Video 15 No.15

Matteline 1967 is now up to Fantasy Box Art video No.15.

First up, a couple of boats from The Creature from the Black Lagoon and African Queen, movies with trucks, and then on to Gerry Anderson - this time it is mainly Joe 90.

Many of these ideas would indeed have made wonderful kits. What a pity they were not actually produced.

Kit Box Fantasy Art, Yet More!

Here is another video from Matteline 1967, on fantasy kit box art. Kits that should have been produced, but never were. This is No.6 in the series.

First up, models based on the various Airport disaster movies of the 1970s. These could all have been produced using existing airliner models (Boeing 707, 747, and Concorde), with new box art and decals.

Then a selection of SF subjects, including an imaginary Airfix Dogfight double. Then Aurora dinosaurs.

The video finishes up with a picture that Matteline 1967 did for Max of Max's Models, showing Max in his red Mustang car, with Honey the cat sitting on the bonnet.

Here is another fantasy box art video from Matteline 1967 - number nine in the series.

Boxes for kits that no one actually produced, but should have.

This time it is mainly boats and submarines - Doug McClure adventure films, Jaws, James Bond, the trucks from Hell Drivers, and some aircraft. No spaceships this time.

This is video 8 in the series, so he is a very busy gentleman. All would have made great kits, if they had ever been produced, especially the ship from Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space.

FANTASY BOX ART: YET MORE!

These are all based on fairly modern Science Fiction movies and TV shows from the 1960s onwards. Lots of great ideas, including a few more Gerry Anderson craft. Just a pity none of them were ever made for real.

What If... Airfix Thunderbirds Kits

Here is another You Tube video featuring fantasy What If box art by the very talented Matteline 1967. 

This time it is the craft from various Gerry Anderson shows. Part 1 features a host of Thunderbirds craft, from both the TV series, and the two films. 

Sadly, Airfix never made any of these kits in the real world, but these paintings give an idea of what they might have looked like.

What If Kit Box Art - Part 4

From Matteline 1967, another collection of 'What If' box art designs for kits that never were - but certainly should have been. This is Part 4.

Box tops include Firefox from the Clint Eastwood movie. Poseidon from The Poseidon Adventure, which is actually the original Queen Mary ocean liner. 

The Disney version of the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Then on to Alien, Quatermass, a Dalek from Doctor Who, a Triffid from The Day of the Triffids - Glows in the Dark !, Cocoon spaceship, and wrapping up with a Dogfight Double of the Flash Gordon spaceship battling one of Emperor Ming's ships. Finally a portrait of Roy Cross, the great Airfix box artist.

All great. What a pity none of these were ever produced.

If you really want a model of the Poseidon, Revell did a 1/570th scale kit, which is pretty close to the 1/600th that Airfix used for most of their modern naval and merchant vessels. 

There were also a couple of small scale die-cast models, by Dinky in the 1930s, and Tri-ang Minic Ships in the 1950s.

What If Fantasy Box Art

I just found this video on You Tube. What If...Fantasy Model Kit Box Art, by Matteline1967. 

It shows various made-up kit boxes for kits that were never produced. Most are science fiction, or from movies and TV shows. 

There is even an 'Airfix' 1/12th scale Queen Elizabeth II. Actually, such a kit was made by the British company Selcol in the early 1960s.

The artwork is really well done, and captures the look of old 1960s box tops.

THE THING FROM ANOTHER TOY

 

I saw this Thing online and saved the pic 'cos I thought that's right up our street.

A custom job in the style of Aurora packaging, the figure itself is more a toy than a model. Not sure what the maker used to make it. Could be an Action Man/ GI Joe.

I remember the movie itself scaring the bejebus out of me as a kid as I watched it on the telebox in black and white. Such creepy music and magnificent filming.

What If Airfix Kit Boxes Including Zero-X and Thunderbirds Fire Tenders!

I do not know if you have seen this before, but I just found this site with pictures of boxes for models that Airfix might have produced, but sadly did not. All would make great kits. Several are of Gerry Anderson subjects.

HOOVER SCANS PLEASE

This is the Space Glider by Hoover.

Its an orange version of the Century 21 Space Glider from Project SWORD.

It came in a card window box.

I have the toy but not the box and despite trying have not found a loose one.

Is anyone able to email me a scan or scans of the box so that I can make a custom one for myself?

Flattened out would be superb but scans of the all the sides would be brill too.

Messing with possible transporters for my SpaceX Moon Prospector I had a play with one of my Grandson's old rattles.

Illuminating it from below these are the results.

toblerone task force toys

We've been Christmas shopping and whilst out I saw a large Toblerone.

The box immediately cried out.

What did it cry out?

Why, Project SWORD Task Force 1 and 2 of course!

They have the same shaped triangular boxes!

Now, my idea runs like this: would a Task Force 1 and 2 fit into a large Toblerone box?

It could be a gift set!

Yay! A Christmas special!

THE TOY ART OF RANDY REGIER

After discussing man dogs with Bill on holiday [as seen in episode 1 of TV's awesome new Jekyll and Hyde] I found Tardy the Man Pony.

This fellow is allover the net and I have often dismissed him as someone's joke action figure, 'Tardy' presumably referring to the fact that he's late for Noah's Ark as shown on the box. 

It took some rooting around to find the truth. Rather than a joke toy its a piece of art done by an American artist called Randy Regier.

I have spent an enjoyable half hour this morning looking over Randy's brill website and I can see why his amazing sculptures are so appealing. You have to look twice. Randy has made everything. Tinged with modern irony, many are stunningly beautiful. Just look at his Machine to Dispel Sadness X-1.

His tin space toys like the Smoking Astronaut and Nu Penny toy stores are amazing - these installations may have popped-up near you our US readers? - as are further fun custom jobs like John Manschaft and New Dog.

His larger installation from 2003 called Fire Fly Space Ship reminds me totally of the front end of the Nuclear Ferry!
