Issue number 8 of the Eaglemoss Batman Automobilia features the incredibly stylised and extremely long Batmobile from the TV series referred to as Batman: The Animated Series (although it later carried an on screen title of ‘The Adventures of Batman and Robin’)
The award winning series, which aired in 1992 was heavily influenced by Tim Burton’s Batman films and the Fleischer Studio Superman cartoons, as well as the old black and white American crime thrillers of the forties.
The series mixed film noir and Art Deco creating an otherworldly timelessness giving the whole cartoon a dark and disturbing feel.
The series’ Batmobile has a vaguely similar design to the car seen in Tim Burton films with a jet engine turbine at the rear and voice activated armour mode.
However, in keeping with it’s retro look it has four exhaust outlet pipes on show at either side of the engine which is reminiscent of the comic book Batmobile of the forties.
The Eaglemoss model looks great, a perfect representation, and the 3D lenticular backdrop is in keeping showing Gotham City at night.
Next time I’ll have a look at the Batmobile that featured in Batman # 5
