However, I did manage to scan the souvenir book. As the file sizes are quite large, I've had to attach them here on One Drive.

Battlestar Dilemma

I saw a box set of the modern Battlestar Galactica DVDs at a sale today. I paused but passed.

I'm not well-up on BSG at all. Like this set, it sort of passed me by in the maelstrom of Star Wars, but I do seem to recall someone saying that the modern re-make TV series was one of the best sci-fi shows around.

Is that right? Any good? It might still be there next week!

Breaking away from house, down the midweek booty today I picked up just a couple of cheap trinkets.

An old Waddingtons Battlestar Galactica jigsaw. Cylon Warrior. Did you have one of these?

A bag of old figures, knights and horses, which I've dunked ...

and dried off. Recognise any?

I also picked up some old Seventies greetings cards, which I'm always on the look-out for, as I enjoy sending them to friends and rellies. This was a box of varied greetings and sizes, all very nostalgic.

Quite a few envelopes had either self-gummed to the card top or in some cases completely sealed themselves with the cards inside!

Not completely sure how to separate the gummed edge from the card without damaging the picture. Any ideas?

The pay-off for a vintage greetings card fan like me is an image like this, hidden for decades in a sealed paper envelope yellowing with age, only to be re-discovered by yours truly in a house clearance jumble box in a field this morning.

Now that is a classic Seventies composition. Curls, browns and golds! Do you like it too?

Oddly enough I saw two paperback horse books in the house clearance boxes; Follyfoot, no less, and Black Stallion. I also saw an old boxed Evel Knevel Scramble Van and hundreds of rock music cassette tapes - like I had way back - such as Deep Purple, Van Morrison, the Jeff Beck Group and the Jeff Healey Band, but as I'm trying to cut-down on what I fetch home I resisted temptation!

Would you have resisted?

Looking ahead to Moonbase Junior's next visit I was planning on watching Battlestar Galactica with him.

First issue is age rating. He's only six and can't handle all PG's, which I assume it would be. 

Second issue is format. I looked it up and it appears to be a TV series. I thought it was a film. There's also mention of some episodes bundled up as films. Then there's a modern remake at the back of my mind.

I'm confused. Can anyone explain?

Also, is it any good?

CAPTAIN LAZER: THE NEXT GENERATION

I had a Mattel Captain Lazer when I was a kid in the Sixties. You know, Major Mat Mason's big chum that looked like Mister Spock.

Years later a whole new Generation of Mattel kids got to own a Captain, in a nifty bit of recycling, this time in the form of a Colonial Warrior from the Battlestar Galactica range.

Battlestar Galactica on TV

Hi Woodsy,

BBC iplayer has put up for viewing the new series of Battlestar Galactica.

While I suspect most people will be familiar with it already, I had only come across it in passing, and so tried to watch it.

I found it a confusing mix of sex, spaceships and pessimism (with gung-ho US Marine-style characters thrown in) and ended up skimming through two episodes then giving up. Be interested to know what others thought of it.

In the meantime, going to cheer myself up with a couple of episodes of "Stingray"!

ANGEL RADIO CONTROL COMMANDER SAUCER: SPANISH GALACTICA?

I saw this vintage space toy, Angel Radio Control Commander Saucer, on Spain's Todocollecion.

It was also described as similar to a Battlestar Galactica spacecraft.

Is this right readers?

I'm not familiar with the Landram from Battlestar Galactica. To be honest I'm not overly-familiar with the film itself.

On the strength of this fab RC Landram test on You Tube I may have to check out the movie properly. Or is this vehicle from a TV series?

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA PAPERBACK FROM DINNINGTON NEAR SHEFFIELD

Just sorting some old books out, I came across this Battlestar Galactica paperback.

Books often tell you things about the owners and this one is a gem. The previous owner, from Dinington near Sheffield [who has blacked out his name], has not only stuck in a Cylon Warrior from the Action Transfers set but also what I suspect to be the stub from the cinema screening of the film way back when!

The stub says EMI on it. EMI ran the ABC cinema chain and I assume it came from a Sheffield ABC ticket. I can't find any info about Battlestar Galactica being shown at Sheffield ABC - dates, attendance - but I presume it was 1978. It will have looked something like this [taken in 1983]

The  paperback also contains several pages of colour photographs including some fabulous artwork by the gifted Ralph McQuarrie.

I didn't see Battlestar Galactica at the cinema but I can appreciate the effort that has gone into personalising this paperback. Did you see the movie when it came out readers?
