PANTOGRAPH: YOU CAN DRAW ANYTHING YOU LIKE!

 

Ah, the Pantograph. I used to see these advertised at the back of comics and often wondered what it would be like to draw 'anything you like'.

Not sure its a toy, I think I did once had a go. The device let you draw things bigger too.

I've not seen one for years so when I saw a bundle on an old auction I saved the image.

Bandai's 8 Ban: A Christmas Record

Woodsy, I found this very interesting clip on a mini record player called the 8 Ban by Bandai of Japan, which plays 8cm vinyl records. 

It is from 2004, and only lasted about a year. There was a fairly limited selection of records, which appear to be single-sided. 

They only played one song each, so you would spend a lot of time changing records! But it is really cute.

Record Runner Volkswagen for Christmas?

Somehow, I now find myself discovering You Tube items on bizarre gadgets. 

This one is a battery-powered Volkswagen van called the Record Runner that runs around the surface of a Long Playing record, and plays it. We are warned, 33 1/3 rpm only, it does not have a setting for 45 rpm. 

It is from Japan, and dates from 2017, so it might still be possible to find it in the shops ? Designed by Stokyo, it is available in at least two colours - red and blue.

A BEOGRAM TRACKED MY MINIDISC

We were out charity shopping last weekend and visited a large Help The Aged Furniture store. These are the larger shops full of second hand wardrobes and what-nots. There are some amazing bits of furniture in them.

Anyways, I'm always intrigued to see what old electrical media they have in, largely to check whether VHS is still clinging on to dear life!

So I was pleasantly surprised to see two nice VHS players in this store. Neither of them where better than the three I have [I'm a VHS tape collector after all!] but it was great to see.

Big Charity outlets like these are great repositories of dead tech and I always have a gander.

Two more items on my 'I'd love to see Them Again' list are a Laserdisc player, which I've never seen in one and a Bang and Olufson Beogram 4004, the one with the amazing linear tracking stylus. It always made me think of 2001 A Space Odyssey or UFO when I saw them in the 80's.

Alas, among the Ipods and Ipod docking stations no luck with either of these icons. I wouldn't mind seeing a Minidisc player either, another device I never had.
