I think we all like seeing or acquiring oddball toys and this is a cool toy I picked up a few months back. It is a knock-off of one of GIANT"s aliens but is a sliver blow-mold vs. a solid piece of plastic. I love his googly eyes! LOL

Ed's Tin: the Yonezawa C-124 Globemaster

Here's another beautiful Hunk O' Tin from Vegas Air Field: the C-124 Globemaster from Yonezawa in Japan.

The Douglas' C-124 Globemaster II was a heavy-lift cargo aircraft developed from their earlier work on the C-74 Globemaster. Nicknamed 'Old Shaky". Globemaster II's were initially assigned to the Strategic Air Command (SAC) hauling nukes until becoming the prime mover for the Air Force's Military Air Transport Service (MATS). 

It served with MATS from 1950 until MATS was re-designated as the Military Airlift Command (MAC) in 1966, and on until 1970 when the last Globemaster's were transferred to the Air National Guard.

This terrific tin-litho aircraft is 18 1/2" (46.99cm) L x 20 1/2" (52.07cm) wingspan x 6 3/4" (17.14cm) H, and is among the biggest planes currently in my collection. It takes two 'D' cell batteries and when powered up the propellers spinm the front loading hatch opens, and the loading ramp deploys. 

There is a small tank and Jeep inside (both made by Mohawk I believe). The toy follows the standard practice of having detachable wings. Unfortunately, I don't have a video of it in operation.

Ed's Tin: Haji Mansei Toys #FU-881 F-86D Sabre

Woodsy and Fellow Moonbasers,

It's been a month or two since submitting one of the tin-litho planes in my collection. This measures 5 3/8" (13.7cm) L x 4 7/8" (12.4cm) wingspan x 2 1/4" (5.7cm) H and fits in perfectly with a slew of other similarly sized aircraft in the collection. Like other tin-litho airplanes of the era, it splits into two assemblies. Enjoy!

The toy was bought with the header card already unstapled so I didn't have to feel any guilt about opening a pristine package

ED'S NEW ROTOR

Many Thanx to US blog reader Lance for sending me this Spacex Helicopter rotor blade!

My Spacex Earth Launch Pad Set was missing two rotors and the catwalks that went from the gantry to the rocket. The set is now a bit more complete. If I had room for a 3D printer in my little Hovel in Da Hood, I would print this stuff out, but alas....

Here's the last of my Army transporters,

Like the Banner transporter, this Pyro truck is quite small. 

Pyro made quite a nice series of small-sized Army vehicles that also included a couple of boats. Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, they never made an appropriately sized contingent of Little Green Army Men to go with them.

Ed's Buses: More!

Further to Terra's excellent post on tin buses, here's the ones that ended up at Vegas Base.

 My goal at first was to find buses that would either go well on an O-gauge toy train layout or, would look good when used with my toy soldiers, but they are such beauties that I did buy a couple that were way larger (like the HTC SceniCruiser which I sold off years ago).

 I have been collecting toys since '91 and my collector's tendrils have found their way into many a nook and cranny 😁 I can literally send Woodsy many terabytes worth of photos taken over the years.

Ed's Airfix Space Warriors

One of the benefits of blogging and getting replies is acquiring new knowledge and discovering new things. For me that usually means going out in The Cave and opening a box. I'm sure to be surprised.

I had made mention that Airfix had their own set of Galxay Laser Team figures. Nay, Nay. Tony commented that, while Airfix had their own figures, they were not the GLT. Out to The Cave I go. I have been photographing as many of my spacemen as time and energy permit, so the Airfix box was right where it could be easily reached.

Scratches head.

Says, to self, "Self! These are not the Galaxy Laser Team figures'.

Yay! I have a whole new set of figures I didn't realize I had! How could I not realize? Wellll, these were bought somewhere around ten years ago, and I never cracked the box open. They were quietly stashed away in the hoard and forgotten about. Until today.

The figures themselves are 54mm and molded in a gray soft plastic. They have that same '70s/'80s vibe as does the Tim-Mee figures though and make great companion pieces to them, but I am not at all a fan of the horrid colors of the originals. 

Fortunately, some years back Jeff Immel re-started the Tim-Mee line under license and now makes copies from the original tooling. 

They come in a variety of awful colors as tribute to the originals BUT he also offers a set in silver and black which I believe I'm going to order!
