BBC'S LATE NIGHT HORROR SERIES REMEMBERED: the Corpse That Can't Play

A scary one for Christmas Eve, I think I remember this series shown in 1968, particularly the creepy black and white 'twisting faces' introduction.

More or less a lost TV series, this is a rare BBC episode on You Tube.

TOWER BRIDGE AFTER MIDNIGHT

Further to your London After Midnight having related toys, there was the diecast Crescent Tower Bridge, see photo.

Back in the 1950's the model came with two little diecast paddle steamers, mine has to make do with a 1950's lead destroyer.

LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT

The 1927 silent horror film London After Midnight holds two accolades.

It is the most sought-after of all lost horror films and considered to be the holy grail among film fans who seek out lost horrors.

The final copy of London After Midnight went up in smoke in 1965 at MGM.

I remember seeing stills of this film in old Famous Monsters if Filmland and some of the horror movie books I had in the early Seventies like the Dennis Giffords' and Alan Franks'.

In the Noughties a renowned film restorer stitched together the existing black and white stills and the script to create a repro silent movie. You can watch it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJTuZb_A-H8&t=11s What do you think?

The other accolade that this Lon Chaney showcase holds is the fact that the only known movie poster for it sold for the highest price ever reached for a movie poster, just shy of a half a million dollars. It was bought by Metallica's frontman.

There's not many toys associated with this old lost flick. Sideshow released this Lon Chaney doll in 2001, the famous vampire from the film, the Man in the Beaver Hat. The packaging has a sort of Madelman feel to it.

London After Midnights enters the Public Domain this year. Maybe that will somehow tease out one more copy of the film somewhere. It would be a treasure!

DOCTOR WHERE

I've just been skimming over the long Wiki page about missing Dr.Who TV episodes. My head's spinning like a Dalek on ice! Its a fascinating and convoluted tale of chance and passion as the missing episodes have been searched for across the globe over the many decades and fortunately with some success.

A chap called Ian Levine seems to have been the springboard for early finds in the late 70's and 80's and there's an amazing tale about two BBC staffers buying episodes off each other and giving one or two of them to Ian Levine as they were part of the lost! 

I do love stories like this as many people must do as well judging by the numbers of documentaries and TV segments there have been on the subject. There's even one called The WOTAN Assembly about retrieving that particular series. I haven't seen it.

Finding missing TV reminds me of finding missing toys. I imagine finding anything at all thats been missing is just as exhilarating.

help needed! lost film clips

Last year we all marveled at the public previews of old Project SWORD films available online.

They included a groundbreaking clip of a white Nuclear Ferry at a toy display from which this still was taken.

There was also a clip of three SWORD toys in motion at a Japanese fair from which this still was taken. There may have been a thrd clip as well.

These films are now gone from the internet and remain out of reach to us as it stands.

Did anyone make a copy of these short films at all?
