Looey's Robots: Lost in Space and Robby!

Hello Bloggiversary Moonbasers! 

Seeing Bob's  full-size Lost In Space robot brought back good memories for me.

I got a call about making a LIS robot for a Mitsubishi Star Wagon TVC in the late 80's.

Unfortunately it seems my work in progress photos are not digitized, so you'll have to wait for another time there (unless you have Flint Mitchell's book "You can build the Lost in Space Robot" which features an article from Science Fiction Modeler Magazine about how I did it!)

The robot was carved from styrofoam and plastic sheet but didn't include the foot sections. The head bubble was commissioned from a Sydney plastics fabrication company and it's close, but not perfect.

The photos show the costume on it's support cradle and on the set built for the TVC with me inside acting all robot like, After the commercial aired, an Entrepreneur named Glen Ware who was also an absolute LIS fanatic tracked me down and got me to make two complete robots (which took a LOT longer than 11 days as I tried to make them as good as I could). He then organized a stage show called "Never Fear, Smith is here" starring Jonathan Harris and I got to act on stage with him, making me the only person who has acted opposite Smith apart from Bob May.

After that show, Glen organized another show with Dick Tufeld and Bob May with my suit as you can see. I also built a full size Robotoid dummy, but I never solved how to make the large clear bubble...

I sold my Robot to the Powerhouse Museum for their Universal Machine exhibit -it still has Bob May's autograph on the bubble!

NULLI SECUNDUS FORBIDDEN PLANET SPACE TOY

TERRANOVA47's FORBIDDEN PLANET

I just noticed the Forbidden Planet post.

Here's the one I did during lockdown from memory of the scene, 

then I found the still from the movie on line.

I added Robbie and Morbius because the box looked empty! I don't have the display room Joseph Svec seems to have.

As you know I'm a fan of Dan Dare the full colour SF strip in Eagle during the 1950's. 1954 was a great time for full colour SF movies.

War of the Worlds; 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea; Forbidden Planet. Every one a gem.

Lock down ended before I started my War of the Worlds diorama, the movie version Tripods were good but used special effects to show the force field legs which effectively meant on screen they didn't look like they were walking. 

They floated beautifully. 

I have a metal kit of the Classics Illustrated version which is what I read after seeing the movie, long before I read the book. Victorian England is the real setting not Los Angeles, USA.

JOSEPH SVEC'S INCIDENT AT ALPHA 1 BASE CAMP DIORAMA

Here are photos based on the movie Forbidden Planet.

The space cruiser is homemade wooden. The space accessories and figures are reissue Marx. the ID monster is 3-d printed.

Here is an original scene, “Incident on Alpha-1 base camp”

It uses LOD Space Aliens, SCS-Direct, and Marx astronauts and accessories. The flying saucers are from the movie Mars Attacks.

The terrain pieces are reissue Marx.

FORBIDDEN TIGER

My Forbidden Planet diorama is up!

The Tiger scene is depicted. Following the kiss between Alta and Adams, Alta's sexual awakening changed her in such a way that the tiger became aggressive towards her, just as it would have toward any other human.

Robbie with pistol is ready to back up Commander Adams and Dr. Morbius is there as his 'Id' is everywhere.

That's my excuse for getting all four figures into the scene.

FORBIDDEN PLANET: TERRANOVA

Woodsy, funny that you mentioned Forbidden Planet this summer. A project I am in the middle of is a diorama using these figures.

The painting is not finished at this stage. I'm stalled while deciding on what has to go to make room to display it.

The figures are maybe 60mm.
