Woodsy and Fellow Moonbasers,

I enjoyed seeing the packaged goodies on the Outer Realm site.

 I've been busy trying to photograph my spacemen collection and took these shots of my Tim-Mee Toy/Processed Plastic Galaxy Laser Team figures. 

I also have a boxed Airfix set of these figures (all in tan) that I haven't yet taken photos of.

 Since first seeing the Tim Mee ape I've liked it. He's sure clutching that space rifle!

As a kid I would have liked the fact that you could own that very same space rifle, also by Tim Mee!

TIM MEE TEAM TIME

Galaxy Laser Team are a fascinating bunch of space heroes. We've covered them afore on MC, including the re-launch by Tim Mee toys some years back. 

You can't keep a good toy down so I had another browse for GLT. Turns out they even had a strip in an Argentinian kids' comic back in 1980.

No pint re-inventing the laser. It was Secret Fun Blog's post from 2012 where I found out first. The links to the comic strips are dud so surfing on I came across what I think are the comics and the strips in a great 2023 GLT piece on Toy Nostalgia.  Its in Spanish so use Translate.

There's some great comparisons between Galaxy Laser Team and SF milestones like Ralph McQuarrie's apes and Sean Connery's Zardoz.

What do you think? How come GLT never made it in any other comics?

Laser Sharp!

The Galaxy Laser Team by Processed Plastics and Tim Mee Toys are a staple of space toy figures.

Most of the time we see these figures in their simple factory colours so I was pleasantly surprised to see these fully and precisely painted versions on an old auction site. The paint has brought out different characteristics, the left shooter being very Buck Rogers, the lady looking like a Star Trekker, the ape soldier now dressed like a workman and the right figure given the complete Greek warrior look!

TIM MEE ULTIMATE STAR BATTLE TOYS: NEW!

Hi Woodsy,

You might remember me from the Tim Mee Galaxy Laser Team reissue from a few years back.

I'm working on another project you might find interesting, the action figure size Tim Mee Ultimate Star Battle Spaceship and Star Attack Battle Station.

It's early days, but I'm hoping to gather enough support to run a pre-order/crowdfunding campaign to get these reissued.

Here's a couple of pictures. Vintage Star Attack Battle Stations are hard to come by, so this is the best photo I currently have.

Both items are scaled for 3-3/4" action figures and are quite large. The Ship is 26" long and 24" wingspan, and the Battle Station is 34" wide.

These will be expensive to produce in 2018, so I'm considering a pre-order/crowdfunding campaign to get them produced.

The main metric I'm using to gauge and gather support is an email list for the project:

Alas, there's been no new info on the Galaxy Laser Team origins. I've been told the original rubber molds for the jumbo figures have turned up. These would have been used as part of the steel mold manufacturing process. I've requested photos but haven't gotten any yet.

It might be a mystery lost to time.

Here he's talking about his mini spacemen collection. There's some Ajax, SpaceX, some Tim Mee Galaxy team and some mystery figures amongst others [more on Tim Mee later this month].

Voyage Into Space: Boba Fett and the Tim Mee Alien

I saw this old Super 8 film cover for Voyage into Space [a mystery film to me!] and thought, hmmm....

those guys remind of two others I know!

Yep, the alien reptile man sort of looks like Tim Mee Toys turtle alien pictured here courtesy of Ebay

and the rocket robot shouts Boba Fett to me!

Here's the Fett with his rocket pack blasting off in the now renowned Star Wars Holiday Special cartoon segment, his first appearance.

If anyone has these two or similar toys then maybe you could have a bash at recreating the Super 8 Voyage into Space box scene and email it me!

Or do you know more about the film itself?

MOONSCAPE MYSTERY: IS IT WARRIORS OF THE GALAXY?

Earlier today I said I might have a lead for ID' ing this plastic purple moonscape. Well, I stumbled across the same plastic piece on another blog about fantasy toys called Fantasy Toy Soldiers. It is my new favourite blog!

The publisher Shaun has compiled a veritable feast of plastic heroes and demons and in his article Marty Toy: Warriors of the Galaxy Shaun includes the following picture:

OK, it's bright orange and not purple but its the same toy for sure. Shaun explains that "this weird little piece also comes with some of the Mexico copies".  The set of figures its related to is the Warriors of the Galaxy line by Marty Toys. They issued a fab looking play set:

So, at this point I'm still unsure if we have found the source of the moonscape. Mexican copies tend to be just that, Copies. Maybe Devlin was right about Tim-Mee and the moonscape is theirs? At least we know its from a fantasy figure line by the looks of it.

TIM-MEE TOY CRATER MYSTERY

Recently I presented Scoop and Bill with some lovely modern white moonscapes. I got them as I have been pondering moonscapes of late for a new project. Moonscapes of the plastic variety are fascinating and in particular this vintage purple one which surfaced on the bay a few years back:

I had thought it to be Kosmic Kiddles but as reader Devlin pointed out in 2013, when it first came up, those are much craggier as you can see:

Devlin reckoned that the purple moonscape was maybe part of a Tim-Mee set of plastic figures. Despite searching high and low for a Tim-Mee purple crater or moonscape or lunar surface I've drawn a blank.

But! I have recently had another lead. Its a slim one but you never know! As soon as I hear back from another blogger I will let you know if this plastic mystery is solved too!

TIM MEE GALAXY LASER TEAM AND FRIENDS

I'm forever stumbling across these Tim Mee plastic figures  online, the Galaxy Laser Team. I didn't have any as a kid and have never seen them in the flesh.

They seem to have been endlessly recycled and repackaged although the distinctive designs stay the same. 

They get renamed too and these STAR PATROL set mention an X-Wing, perhaps giving away their origins in the vast world of Star Wars knockoffs.

 They got bigger too as in these giant sized STAR BATTLE figures.

 and appeared all over the world.

The designs do remind me of certain characters. The green martian with his rifle recalls this proto-Chewbacca drawn by John Schoenherr.

and the lady stood next to the console recalls all those comms officers in space shows like Uhura in Star Trek. 

The guy with the helmet has got to be Magneto!

and the warrior turtle is a deadringer for Gamera!
