What do you think of Radio Shack?

Were they important to you as a kid?

I never got into the whole R/C scene and I'm unsure I even thought of remote-control stuff as toys. They felt like something else. Like rocketry did. I wish I had delved into both of them.

Tandy is another name I associate with remote-controlling and they might even have had shops. Tandy shops. Is that right?

Anyways here's a strange but comical film of a Radio Shack Space Walker, in New York which is not something I've seen in the flesh. Have you?

COMPUTER CAR MERCEDES C111

There were many computer cars released.

BATTERY OPERATED TANDY MARS MISSION

This is the ultra cool box art for the mega neat Mars Mission plastic lunar vehicle.

The vehicle is based on the BHS Explorer 12 range, which we've covered before on MC.

Mars Mission was released by Tandy Radio Shack.

Grand Central Space Walker

With only 48 views I had to post this rather bizarre but oddly quaint You Tube film starring the Radio Shack Space Walker at Grand Central Station in New York City.

It defines perfectly the idea of placing vintage toys in modern settings for the sheer fun of it! The You Tube film is by Philip Reed.

The Radio Shack Space Walker: What's That All About?

In my mind Radio Shack are a strange toy company. On the margins really where remote control is king. 

Saying that, I was surprised to see this vintage Space Walker by Radio Shack on Ebay last year. 

It has a sort of Masters of the Universe look to it on the box art!

The toy itself really does scream MOTU and Thundercats and I assume Radio Shack wanted to cash in on those two hugely successful action figure lines without explicitly saying so. Maybe even Star Wars but it looks too big to have a Kenner figure stood up in the hatch.
