Brian's Frankenstein Flivver Flies Again!

Hi Woodsy. Last Summer I found a box of old model kits that had fallen into disrepair. I vowed to restore them when I had the chance. Thanks to ample down time due to Pandemic and lack of work, I have rescued one of them. The Polar Lights Frankenstein's Flivver was built during a nasty Winter in 1997,when my jobsite was closed due to a Blizzard. I was horrified to find it in so many pieces, but in a little while, I had pieced it back together. It is missing Frank's yo-yo and a decoration that went on the back of the vehicle. I remember not liking the plumes of smoke coming out of the engine, so they are deliberately left off.

Puppet House Lights

I took this snap of a toy Sylvanian family doll house through our front window last night. I liked the silhouette.

It recalls similar creepy dolls houses.

One I half remember is a TV series where the camera followed miniature people inside a doll's house. It was at the start of each episode with the theme music. I had thought it was Thriller from the 70's but its not, I checked. Any ideas?

Another creepy house with lit windows was the Aurora Addam's Family House model kit. My brother had the original one in the late Sixties, which I remember at home.

I had a modern re-issue - in the 90's I think. Alas I sold it but I did have fun making it and trying out torches inside it! The model contained small glow ghosts on moving levers, which came to the door and the windows. Great fun! Did you have one readers?

All these lighted windows remind me of that neat device on the covers of Gothic Romance paperbacks. There's always one light left on upstairs as the damsel runs away from the old dark house!

I do love a lighted window in winter, maybe lit by a candle.
Something to come home to.

The Beast from the East is slowly receding from West Yorkshire.

Its still freezing and I've just been out to look at some birds in the fields.

Taking off my parka, peaked cap and black binoculars and seeing them together I suddenly thought ......

Yes, its more or less the same as Clint and Richard had on in the 1968 WWII romp.

Come to think of it its more or less the top half of Palitoy's Action Man Mountain and Arctic Outfit too! This one's on Ebay.

I think the binoculars were white in this set though, which would make sense if you are trying to blend in.

That box art has a distinct look of Clint to me!

I've such a vivid memory of sliding my own arctic outfit Action Man down our snow-covered drive in the Sixties. It was sloped so perfect for short runs on his skis! His black and white rifle is imprinted on my brain.

I'd like to think I sent my orange-jacketed Polar Explorer down the slop too but there's no memory there. I can still feel the shiny plastic Husky dog in my hands though.

Did you have an arctic or polar Action Man readers or any other snowy action figures?

Its always good to get away for a few days. We've been to Skipton. Yep, to recharge the ol' battery packs.

Its always fun to spot vintage stuff and old friends whilst travelling. The geek travels in me.

So I had to laugh. In our Bed and Breakfast room was this radiator dial. I immediately thought ....

In Skipton I also saw an old pal in the window of an Aquatics shop.

The Jewel Box Collection skeleton pirate by fish tank toy maestro's Penn Plax.

I've loved Penn Plax ever since I discovered that they released an aerating Creature from the Black Lagoon, one of the most iconic monster collectables ever.

I could easily collect Penn Plax skeletons. In fact all pirate skeletons really. Part of such a collection would have to be MPC's Pirates of the Caribbean - like their brilliant Dead Man's Raft.

Not wanting to spend a King's ransom on an original kit reader Jeff Saucerman has kindly let me know that for a few dabloons you could bag the Lindberg re-issue in their Jolly Roger line, Hex Marks the Spot!

Anyone collect skeleton kits and toys?

I was thinking about my big Bro's old Aurora Adams Family House today. It was a fantastic kit, so fantastic I got myself a Polar Lights re-issue in the 1990's.

Thinking about that house made me think of other similar 'haunted' houses, not necessarily kits but from the big screen, specifically Bates' Motel and the Marston House in Salem's Lot.

Always one for a bit of fun I decided to have a go at sketching them before I looked at them online. They are sooo similar in my mind it was hard to even start!

This is my feeble attempt. Its really hard just from memory. They look the same in my addled brain! Have a go yourself before you click on mine and ONLY then check what they really look like online.

There is a musical version of this. Well, its a musical conundrum really and one you can get friends and family to have a go at.

What you have to do is hum the following theme tunes one after another:
