I was thinking about my big Bro's old Aurora Adams Family House today. It was a fantastic kit, so fantastic I got myself a Polar Lights re-issue in the 1990's.
Thinking about that house made me think of other similar 'haunted' houses, not necessarily kits but from the big screen, specifically Bates' Motel and the Marston House in Salem's Lot.
Always one for a bit of fun I decided to have a go at sketching them before I looked at them online. They are sooo similar in my mind it was hard to even start!
This is my feeble attempt. Its really hard just from memory. They look the same in my addled brain! Have a go yourself before you click on mine and ONLY then check what they really look like online.
There is a musical version of this. Well, its a musical conundrum really and one you can get friends and family to have a go at.
What you have to do is hum the following theme tunes one after another:
Star Wars - Indiana Jones - Superman [70's Reeves version]
Again, have a go before you check. Its harder than it sounds!
Polar lights did actually make a Pycho house model which may be the Addams family house ,just slightly altered. They also made a kit of 1313 Mockingbird lane from The Munsters. You did a better job of drawing from memory than I ever could, although I managed to hum all the movie tunes :).Now the Amityville Horror, there's a haunted house that's burned into my memory!I think because the attic windows look like eyes staring at you...Brrrr!
ReplyDeletePolar Lights were/ are a great company. I love their name's homage to Aurora. Are they the same as Playing Mantis? Well done humming the movie tunes! Ask friends and family to accept the challenge! Yes, the Amtyville house is a corker. Very unique and that attic window is iconic I agree. The scene on the cellar where the family friend sees the gates of hell is a real goosepimpler and never fails to make my skin crawl! Wonder if there were ever any toys or games from Amityville? Unlikely, it was X rated here and R rated in the States I bet!
DeleteThe 2 names seem to be synonymous.I think Polar lights were the models and Playing mantis were the toys, like the Johnny Lightning re makes.Moebius is the current maker of Aurora re makes.Amityville Horror was a video nasty?I cant remember what the rating was here but my parents allowed me to see it because I had read the book.Actually, the movie was subpar to the book, and I thought the modern re make was crap.
ReplyDeleteAmytyville Horror was an X rated film - 18 and over - when it came out in the cinema in 79 here. That was an R in the States right Brian? Later the X became the 18 rating here. Video nasties on the other hand were a particular bunch of cheapo horror and exploitation movies that surfaced in the UK at the dawn of the video age in the early 1980's. The list of movies became illegal to sell or rent and were enshrined on the Videp Recordings Act 1984. Rather than the young people becoming devil worshippers as predicted by the Government of the day some small VHS store owners went to jail and a bunch of otherwise mediocre flicks became infamous must-sees and VHS collectors' grails. Did you have similar censorship of video in the US?
