A VIVID EXAMPLE

 

I recently picked up the large plastic Vivid Thunderbird 2 in this TV ad from 1999 for two quid.

It had a few faults so I tried to iron them out with 'kitchen drawer' tech.

No front roller on the pod base - replaced. Legs bent - straightened. Dried stuff in the ribbing - cleaned out. Winch and hook - partially fixed. Sound effects - new batteries inserted and working.

Trying to repair the clockwork winch was the hardest job and I only partially succeeded. After taking part the front cockpit to expose it it was clear the string had tangled. Untangled and wound round the flywheel once more I just couldn't get the grapple hook to rise all the way up to the vehicle. The clockwork power just ran out early. It must have been overwound.

Still, all cleaned up my TB2 is ready for recon and rescues once more.

Did you have a Vivid Thunderbird 2, large or small?

QUICKMIX SUNDAY

I picked a few toys up at a Sunday sale last weekend.

The large 12" figure is a talking Thunderbirds Hood from Vivid in the 90's. More to come on this.

Hoody was joined by a lovely Speed Kings Fire Chief car and a stubbornly unresponsive Corgi Esprit.

 

Polar Mission Man came out of the 90's cold too.

A 60's Brutus, the Palitoy Mountie mutt, wasn't too impressed with him.

This 70's Zee Motorbike was a snip at 10 pence!

Maybe my best buy at just one Pound was this First Generation Transformer from 1987 called Quickmix.

This 10 pence box figure stumped me.

Last but not least, this little fella said Halo and jumped on board.

Just found your sites, I am hunting a set of replacement decals for a Vivid toys released Thunderbird 2.

I found your site has a photo of said decals,  I tried Vivid in the U.K but they have no old stock available,

Would you know what size the sheet is and wether you have a higher resolution photo of them.

Any help would be appreciated.

HE'S SCOTT A RIFLE!

 

I noticed that the old 1999 talking Scott Tracy figure from Vivid came with this plastic rifle.

Its not a toy rifle I know and I don't think there's been a life-size version of it made for kids.

Is it based on one in the original Thunderbirds TV show? Anyone know?

VIVID SUPERSIZE THUNDERBIRD 2

Following on my previous post on the Vivid Thunderbirds Are Go Superset, here is their Supersize Thunderbird 2 toy.

 

I've got to say I really like the size and look of this toy. Forget any misgivings you might have about the new CGI series, just enjoy the fun value of this supersize Thunderbird.

Like a lot of larger toys these days you're expected to apply most of the decals.

Give your self a good hour to apply them, and if you've got fingers like E.T. that will help as its pretty fiddly to apply them, especially in Thunderbird 2's cockpit.

But, believe me it's worth it as they really do enhance the look of the toy.

The legs flick down by lifting the wings which have to stay in an upright position. The pod is released by a concealed button on top, which triggers a voice switch telling you the pod is disengaged.

This pod is geared to carry Thunderbird 4, but I'd like to see other pod vehicles.

The supersize Thunderbird 4 is a good size, with detachable deep water rescue capsules at each side and  opening rear hatch.

The cockpit opens up to reveal Gordon Tracy.

Thunderbirds are definitely go with this toy.
