Well, my mock Mattel Chopcycle is finished and Top Hat has hit the road! Its been a hair-raising week but lots of fun. See what you think and enjoy the ride!

CHOP CHOP!

 My latest project is inspired by Mattel's Chopcycles, the motorbike versions of Sizzlers.

I picked up two Matchbox Super Kings Mod Trailers to get me started, one for best and one spare. My chopper will be bigger than Mattel's.

I sawed off the tow bar, cleaned off the decals and painted the blue base yellow.

Large tyres were added and I've made a start on the engine with Junior's lego.

The engines extend all the way to the rear.

Finally today, I've cut out the back spoiler from a marg tub lid and glued it in position with the help of an apple.

Tomorrow I'll paint the spoiler and chrome the engine.

Time for a cuppa and Pilates!

WILL'S SIZZLERS

Some Sizzlers! 

I have a particular fondness for redlines and Sizzlers as Mattel was based around Rushden and Wellingborough in the late '60s and early '70s. 

The reason for this was for them to gain access to the UK market back then, they had to purchase an existing UK toy company. This was Rosebud of Raunds, who sold out to Mattel and became Rosebud Mattel.

Target Hot Wheels Sizzler Set Re-Issue

Hi Woodsy,

I saw the recent posting about the Hot Wheels Sizzlers set and found my reissue set. 

I had the original cars, charger, and track back in the '60's. Like most of my childhood toys, none survived my parents! 

Target Department store reissued some of the cars, chargers, and track sets in 2006. 

I picked up several cars, chargers, and one track set. 

Below is a photo of the track I bought. Somewhere in a box I have the cars and chargers. They actually are a lot of fun. 

Just above it is a reissue of the Snake/Mongoose set from the same time, I think it was a KMart Department store reissue.

I never had any Sizzlers but after watching this US TV ad from 1970 I want one NOW!

Paul V reminded me that Mattel Sizzlers toy cars were motorised. My curiosity to see them 'in the flesh' got the better of me so here's a TV advert from 1970 courtesy of You Tube.

Its a fine looking fleet of cars. Does anyone collect them?

How does the motor work? Does anyone know?
