Some Sizzlers!
I have a particular fondness for redlines and Sizzlers as Mattel was based around Rushden and Wellingborough in the late '60s and early '70s.
The reason for this was for them to gain access to the UK market back then, they had to purchase an existing UK toy company. This was Rosebud of Raunds, who sold out to Mattel and became Rosebud Mattel.
I’ll send some more pics soon if readers are interested.
Regards.

Not really a toy car fan, but interested in the Mattel history, so go for it Will O.
ReplyDeleteDid Mattel buy Rosebud before or after Rosebud sold their railway kits to Airfix? When not selling the railway items did they still produce dolls?
ReplyDeletePlease fill in their history Will. I occasionally still run a kitbashed steam railcar made from their kits and motor bogie.
Superb sizzlers Will. I used to stare at adverts for these toys in wonder when I was a kid. I just couldn't work out what powered them! A kind of Mattel magic! ha ha. Please tell us more!
ReplyDeletelots more Hot Wheels and Mattel toys please Will. They were one of the foremost toy companies for me in the sixties. Wasnt Rosebud Mattel formed around 1967?
