CrisISS! Triang SpaceX is Ready!

 I've read that NASA have to evacuate the entire ISS crew on medical grounds.

 Sounded bad. They're back home already!

I wonder if NASA used SpaceX? 

But which one?

I'd have used Triang SpaceX, no problem! 

The SpaceX Rescue Craft is always ready.

THE SEARS SPACE COMMAND CENTER AND SOUND STUDIO

I love a good space toy mystery, especially one involving box art. This unusual Sears Space Command Centre and Sound Studio appeared on fleabay recently. It seems to be a plastic work station surrounded by card screens and was presumably generic enough for all 12inch figures at the time such as GI Joe and Barbie [Barbie did get her own Space Station].

It's the four card art screens that I like [pictured above right]. Depicting various spacecraft, I recognised the floating city as being from a beautiful Ken Fagg cover from a 1954 If magazine [below left]. I know I've seen the spaceship, which is flying below the floating city, before but just can't place it. As for the rest of the craft shown I would be amazed if they're not from similar Sci Fi pulp covers of the 1950's and 60's. 

Anyone recognise them?

A reader has struck gold identifying the Discovery panel, above right, as the cover of the paperback The Lost Worlds of 2001. The cover was painted by Bruce Pennington and he became famous overnight when it appeared on the first issue of Science Fiction Monthly in January 1974 [below].

It's Still ChrISSmas!

Well, Christmas is still here but lingering like a sprout bouquet. The opened prezzies are in piles still with traces of torn wrapping peeking out from beneath. I wonder if you're sat down looking at one of them right now with a glass of Advocaat?

Well spare a thought for the crew of the International Space Station up there hanging in the heavens like a bright bauble.

THE TRANSPARENT HOMES OF SMALL TOYS

 With more Perspex on my mind here are a few more futuristic plastic homes and domes. See what do you think of these.

Of course, first up, its every baby boomer's lunar penthouse, Major Matt Mason's space station. I adored mine and wanted to live in it!

Much much more complex, this is the incredible DIY Outer Space Station from Women's Day magazine ....

... from November 1978, its just out of this galaxy. If IKEA had made Star Wars flat-pack toys this would be it. Did ANYONE actually make one of these?

A more commercial but equally elegant Star Wars dome was the range of shop displays for Kenner's original toy line. 

But if you crave stacked panes of coloured Perspex then look no further than the Kaleidoscope Doll's House.

This citadel of translucence was designed by Laurie Simmons and Peter Wheelwright.

This space age bauhaus was released by Bozart Toys in 2001. How appropriate! Its a Major Matt retirement home!

Station To Station

Morning play at Junior's place. Mars Mission is go! This Playmobil space station so reminds me of playing with Major Matt Mason back in the day. 

The helmets look the same as the Major's and there's little space tools! The sleeping module reminds me of the SpaceX moon HQ. Did you have a toy space station?
