MYSTERY THUNDERTANK

One of a number of old toys I treated myself to whilst on holiday was the little loose silver Thundercats Thundertank you can see in this shot I've borrowed from Worthpoint.

Since getting it it has been a mystery as to what it was. Superficially looking like a plastic Hot Wheels with mag tyres its date of 1985 made me look deep into the Thundercats toy world.

Turns out its part of the above set which was released by Rainbow toys in 1985 as part of their pocket money toys line of cheap Thundercats rack toys.

The set was called Power Booster and here's an example carded as featured on the excellent Thundercats Org website, without which I would never have ID'd this elusive toy.

THUNDERCATS HOT WHEELS THUNDER TANK

Hi Woodsy,

Here's the 2020 Hot Wheels Replica Entertainment model of the Thundercats Thunder Tank, which actually seems to be a half track ?

ITS AN OMEN: THE NEW WATER SWORD

I do love a good knockoff.

This one I saw online is a classic. I think. Is it a knockoff at all?

The New Water Sword.

New water? That could either mean that the water needs to be new every time or the whole toy is new!

Its got a Thundercats vibe to it, the Sword of Omens type of thing.

But the artwork recalls something else. Just can't think what?

did hawkman inspire he-man?

Hawkman is an old superhero from the Forties.

Here he is in DC's first Hawkman in the Sixties.

I couldn't help noticing old Hawk's emblem.

It reminded me of The Thundercats from the Eighties.

Here's Hawkman's emblem.

Here's Thundercats'.

And what about that X-belt the bare-chested Hawkman wears?

I reckon He-Man swiped that idea straight of his super toned back!

Thundercats On Sundays

Yes, Thundercats is back. In the UK it's on Sunday mornings. A brand new cartoon at 10.35am Channel 5. I never really got into the original cartoon in the eighties but I was seriously into the toys during the naughties. Alas, I sold all my TC toys when I was a full-time toy dealer. Above are a couple of snaps of my Thundercats figures before they were re-homed in 2009! I'll be watching this morning! Will you?
