I saw this Thing online and saved the pic 'cos I thought that's right up our street.
A custom job in the style of Aurora packaging, the figure itself is more a toy than a model. Not sure what the maker used to make it. Could be an Action Man/ GI Joe.
I remember the movie itself scaring the bejebus out of me as a kid as I watched it on the telebox in black and white. Such creepy music and magnificent filming.
Did you enjoy the movie? Do you like this custom Thing?
'The Thing from another world' first version was great. It's later charm was knowing The Thing was played by James Arness who for years put us to sleep with his dull interpretation of Marshall Matt Dillion in 'Gun Smoke' known as 'Gun Law' in the UK. Over 20 years of wooden acting in a role, must have been some kind of record.
ReplyDeleteHa ha - he wasn't exactly setting the stage alight in The Thing either. I love the part where the scientists spread out on the ice to mark out the outline of the ship under the surface. The creepy music is courtesy of the Thermin I think too - the sweeping, eerie notes from the instrument that contributed to the Star Trek theme, years later:

I disagree Wotan. He did set the stage alight when they doused him with kerosene (paraffin) and set him afire. If only his acting career had ended there.
ReplyDeleteThat actor in the Thing was essentially playing a furious vegetable. I loved that old flick. It scared me to death as a kid. A stand-out B-movie.
