Sometimes I spot things I haven't seen for ages.
Years ago we had a brush with Five Funny Men and blog friend Paul Vreede wrote a great article on MB.
Well browsing Spain's Todocollecion I saw this Juguetes 73 [Toys 73] catalogue.
Inside were, well, those Five Funny Men again.
You can see them here on the right, at least three different sets of the plastic outstretched fellows.
Did you have or do you have any Five Funny Men.
Ive got a few sets of these, including the smaller 2" versions with the cows. They are a classically sixties design, remarkably simple, but extremely fun and playable. they also cross the toy/sculptural art threshold too and look great as a display piece.
ReplyDeleteI like them too, very artistic. Almost Alessi!
DeleteIm loving Madelmans Octopus and sea sled too!
ReplyDeleteThey are cool. Did Action Man have an octopus?
DeleteThat's a lovely find Woodsy, and quite intriguing too.
ReplyDeleteThe Acrobates were available in Spain as Muñequos by Exin, which was a subsidiary of Triang that also sold Scalextric or the Triang version of Johnny Astro f ex. But here we see other offerings by JR, whom I know as the importers of Matt Mason toys in France (they obtained MMM toys from Germany and the UK and put translation stickers on the boxes). Here they're getting Mini Boys from Simex in Germany by the looks of it, and selling them in Spain.
Pity the seller is particularly avaricious - he wants €175 for the 73 catalogue and also had the 1974 version for a mere €60. Else I'd get one. (I noticed the images are in a directory from 2019, so he's equally patient... )
All the very best -- Paul V
btw - who's the first anonymous contributor above? That you Wote? Whoever you are, drop us a line please? Thanks!
Thanks Paul. Todocollecion is a goldmine for old Spanish toy catalogues like this and I really enjoy looking through them when listed. Fascinating stuff about the importer JR and Mini Boys. Cheers for sharing your insights.
