I've been sorting out a few toys in my attic and came across a robotic hand a while back. Dismissing it as junk I've actually relegated it to the garden greenhouse for picking up cut nettles and bramble stems.
To my amazement I came across the very same toy this week online and lo and behold, it's a space toy! The Robot Claw Hand no less, sounding like a futuristic American Indian moniker! I will be looking at my nettle grabber with renewed interest from now on! Anyone else got any robot hands of any kind?
Had one of those, loved it! Also had one with a grey robot hand, with fingers. Btw Real men grasp the nettle barehanded! ;-)
ReplyDeletereal men sound dumb!
ReplyDeleteSaw another two of these at a car boot sale today. IOts an infestation of claw hands!
ReplyDeleteThat looks cool!
ReplyDeleteI also had one with a real hand instead of a claw, probably what Bill had as well. Rigid thumb and four flexible fingers that all closed together. All fingers had little rubber rings on them, which had enough friction to hold up a full glass of beer (of the belgian type, about half a pint but thinner and taller). So I took the thing with me to the disco, and used it to get drinks off the bar through the line of people on the bar stools. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso scared the willies out of a friend's younger brother - I had the hand hidden under a jacket hanging off my right shoulder, and held it out to shake his hand when his brother introduced him to me - teeheehee!

As a believer in reuse before recycling, I often raid the local green & yellow paper bins for packing materials, padded mailing envelopes and other useful materials for use at my wife's eBay store.
ReplyDeleteActually have the mechanical helper shown above along in such trips to supplement my reach for such discarded commodities.

Looks odd in the photo because the gripping parts (orange) were interchangeable with shovel-like container sections (green).
