Continuing my look at toys used on book covers, here's one I saw online, The Lost World, where no expense has been spared on the artwork! Hmmm! They've gone for Tyrannosaurus Plasticus Nasticus plopped in some grit and sand. A few fir tree branches have been shoved in for that authentic Jurassic look!
Can't find out the date of this version of the Conan Doyle classic but it screams the Eighties or Nineties. I collect old paperbacks of Lost World, along with Journey To the Centre of the Earth and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, but this gem has eluded my collection! I can't imagine anyone knowing what T.Rex toy it actually is. Or?
That's the way I like to see T-Rex,standing upright, tail dragging, looking like the true monster that he was.Sure I know this look is old school, but the new scientific view makes him look more like a big turkey buzzard.Too organic, not very exciting.I wish I could tell you who made this brute, but I haven't a clue.I would guess it is a built up model kit.The leg joints seem to be filled in with Sculpey. The teeth look like they could be Glow in the Dark, like Aurora's old T-Rex kit.Perhaps it's kit bashed from several different models. It could also be a small figurine. That depends on exactly what variety of Fern/Pine branch/Palm frond is behind him.I hope Sir Arthur would approve of my elementary skills of deduction!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty certain that's an Airfix kit, Paul.
ReplyDeleteI had a few that saw service in the fantasy universe I had as a youngster, T-Rex being transformed into a dragon (as per cheap sci-fi movie :)
