Lance's SpaceX and Golden Astronaut Box Sets

 A bit of history on each set.

The Spacex Mobile Launching Pad: It is in gorgeous shape, has the instruction sheet and both gangways. I received it all wrapped up like in the pictures but it is complete. The other 3 examples I have of this are the Triang Spacex white rocket versions in various states of incompleteness. One just needs another gangway to be complete.

The Golden Astronaut Moon Exploration Set: It was complete but badly damaged bits. The box is the worse of the three sets. As I've encountered better pieces I've replaced the broken ones but all the extras are in the box so it is packed.

The Golden Astronaut Interplanetary Patrol Set: Box has seen some wear but is in better shape than the Moon Exploration set. It is complete with the missiles and the scout ship in a baggy. The Cruiser 1 is a replacement from my box of spares. The one that was included in it was missing the front wheel. I've a lot of the Cruiser 1s so I put a far better example in the box.

COMING SOON - SMALLSPACE 12

 Just a week to go before Smallspace 12, the model show for all things space, science fiction and fantasy, and place checking out some excellent builds, original props, and most important for me, meeting up with some old  friends.

It takes place on the 13th July at Hanslope Village Hall, Hanslope Village, Buckinghamshire.

 As there's a been a few mentions of Spacex toys  on the blog lately, here's a few photos I took of some of mine a while back.

I'M SEEING TRANSOGRAM!

 This solar lamp was outside our rural caravan in Spring.

As soon as I saw it I thought of that old US Transogram board Game with the big orb, Ka-Bala! 

Not a game I e ever seen in the flesh but it spoke to a whole generation of Sixtie's American kids. Literally! 

Such a cool game. Have you got one? 

Similarly, this little fellow reminded me of that other big spooky Transogram game ... 

..... Green Ghost!

Smokey the Bear in the Subway

Another July 4th subject.

Smokey the Bear dates back to the early 50's when a burned bear cub was rescued after a forest fire.

The National Park Service has used his image ever since as a warning for park visitors to be careful and not start forest fires.

Back in 1976 for the Bicentennial the attached car card appeared in NYC Subway cars. I admired it and to my surprise my wife took it down from the wall and gave it to me/ Now it sits framed in my basement looking over my toy trains.

ANOTHER LOOK AT THE WASP HELICOPTER

As I’ve been posting photos of my W.A.S.P. Arrowhead fighter, and the Spearhead Bomber, I thought I’d repost some photos I did back in April, of my Italari 1: 32 scale Kaman H-43B ‘Huskie’ plastic kit, which is pretty much identical to the 1961 Hawk kit used in the Stingray TV series.

The model makes a couple of notable appearances in the series,(Pink Ice, Titan Goes Pop) being used as a V.I.P. transporter to and from Marineville Airfield.

The studio model makers doesn’t veer too far from the look of the actual H-43B ‘Huskie’, although the distinctive twin intermeshing rotor blades which make a tail rotor superfluous has been modified to just a single blade for practical reasons to accommodate a central support wire. There is also the addition of an extended tail fin, which was used to fix the rear support wire.

Although we don’t see the inside the control cabin, or the pilots, we do see one of the crew escorting Comr. Shore off the helicopter. He is dressed in a Marineville security guard uniform minus his helmet. With that in mind I decided to paint my pilots in the same uniform colours. As the kit doesn’t come with pilots, I used a couple of Britains 1: 32 scale tractor drivers.

I added some detailing in the rear cargo hold, two bench seats and a control panel.

The ‘Huskie’ kit also makes makes the odd appearance in Thunderbirds. In the episode, ‘Brink of Disaster’, a Pacific-Atlantic Monorail helijet checking the monorail track is hit by lightning and crashes into a bridge causing part of the track to collapse – cue International Rescue.

The real life H-43B ‘Huskie’ first flew in April, 1953, and was designed for aircraft firefighting and search and rescue. It saw action during the Vietnam War, and was retired from military service during the early 1970’s.

Hello Woodsy,

So how does an uprooted Brit celebrate July 4th in New England?

He goes to a store and buys two Hot Wheels cars of what can only confuse American buyers, the three wheeled Morgan.

For American readers, the Morgan was made as a three wheeler because back in the day in the UK (the 1930's) it was classed as a motorcycle combination with lower Road Tax and insurance. 

Power was to the rear wheel and the ride was surprisingly car like but loud.

Morgan did, and still do hand craft four wheel cars, they even updated the 3 wheeler a few years ago.
