ARTO'S MYSTERY BAT SUIT

 

Arto kindly sent me this snap of his late December find, a fabulous vintage vinyl Bat Suit.

Can anyone shed any light on the make of this old costume?

Do you recognise it?

ED'S GOLDEN ASTRONAUT TOYS

Even though I've been concentrating on my 3-rail O-gauge trains for some time now, that doesn't mean I'm not in the game when it comes to other collecting activity. I've just slowed down a bit is all!

Anywho, when this job lot came up for only $39.99, I jumped on it! As you well know, anything SpaceX/Golden Astronaut related is going for stupid sums nowadays and in today's market, this lot was a bargain. 

The Pleasure Cruiser is an empty hull (no doubt cannibalized to repair other cruisers) but the others are fairly intact. 

The Lift Loader is good to go as is, the Mobile Moon HQ could use its front disc (or not - who's to say it's not a variant?), and the Terrain Tiger needs a hook. 

 There is one figure and several odd spare parts. 

One of my goals this year is to cobble together a lunar/alien landscape for photographing my small-to-medium (aka 25mm-60mm sized figure range) toys. We shall see!

Having a sort out at my mums, I came across these modern wonder comics of my fathers from the late 1930s. I just love the futuristic / retro designs of the vehicles.

REDLINE REUNION

 This week I finished sprucing up the last three of four Hot Wheels redlines kindly given to me by my friend Paul V for my Birthday.

Its been great fun! I had a lot of redlines as a kid and its been a nostalgic reunion.

The initial project was to replace the tyres and axles on one end of a redline baseplate.

With spare Kinder-type wheels supplied by Paul and using tools from my new Christmas modelling toolset presented by the Missus I fashioned two replacement axles from metal pins. The original single shaped Mattel axle is at the bottom.

I then set about cleaning up the McLaren M6A from 1968, a really lovely racing car in a forest green with some paint wear overall.

After a failed patch job with a green sharpie and a streaky paint job with a new metallic paint pen, I opted for a full brushed repaint with a pot of metallic Christmas Green paint.

I glued in the detached black plastic seating and glued on the baseplate with its two spare tyres,

The only thing missing is a curved windshield but I'm happy with this nice new car as it is.

Next on the bench was this gorgeous Custom Corvette from 1967 in its fabulous but freckled red colour.

Again a dodgy Sharpie patch-up failed and a metallic paint pen was more pink than red. I opted once more for a full brush repaint with some new metallic red.

I finagled a somewhat crude bonnet from a milk bottle to complete the look.

To be honest this metallic red was pinker than I'd hoped but the end isn't too bad,

The engine retains some of its original factory spray reddening so I've left it alone. All part of the story.

Last but not least and the easiest of the three was this gold Beatnik Bandit from 1968 [no before shot sorry].

My gold paint pen worked fine and created a decent lustre. I re-attached and re-chromed the engine and glued on the baseplate

The only thing missing is the plastic dome over the cockpit but I'll leave it as is with the simple black 'seat' I glued in position.

All in all a great trio and I thoroughly enjoyed doing them up. I've not attempted to re-create the red line on the tyres. I like the worn look and again all part of the history of these old Mattels.

I saw this online last year so saved the snaps. Check out this beautiful miniature ride car by L’ Autopède Belgium made in 1958. A wonderfully constructed space age car straight out of Jules Verne or similar!

Seeing Red

Bull fighting is not my cup of tea at all so I'm always surprised to see anything to do with it amongst collectables. Here's an unusual toy baggie from Hong Kong complete with bull and matador.

Don't think its Tri-play though, the company mentioned the other day in Paul A's article.

JET SET: THE VARIOUS TOY JETMOBILES FROM FIREBALL XL5

Check out Santa's scooter! By Masudaya for Illfelder, its straight from Fireball XL5 and clearly inspired by Steve Zodiac's scooter.

We've seen something like before on MC. There's a Snoopy version out there and here's a snap from one 'Steve Zodiac' from a decade ago comparing a large Space Scooter by Amico to the much smaller but highly collectable Golden Gate Fireball XL5 Scooter.

The Fairylite Jetmobile comes without Zoony but does look nevertheless rather spiffing too.

There is also a fabulous Venus version of the Fairylite Jetmobile pictured on the ever-informative Alphadrome site

SPACE DUMP

We've seen many of these space toys on Moonbase over the years.

These are a new variation with radars and are wind-up too.

They also have DUMP 'N' GO action! ha ha
