KEVIN'S NEW SPACEX II MOON BUGGY

Hi,

I'm still pursuing my SpacexII collection and have now obtained a moon buggy!

It needed some of the teeth on its wheels replacing. I used plasticard strips, a bit of filler and some acrylic paint.

Pleased to have this one!

PROJECT SWORD TOY COMBOS

Unlike Tri-ang SpaceX, Project SWORD toys were too big to offer in multi-packs or sets, but some were small enough. The obvious contenders for a boxed set would have been the three scouts [I'm discounting the fabled Moon Base Play Set as no known examples exist].

But I had a go about 9 years ago at a Dyna Soar/ Apollo Saturn box set as the two sort of go together in space science.

The whole thing was inspired by a cool Fred Takasumi Dyna-Soar launch painting, forming the background on the rough and ready mock-up box.

LP TOY UPDATE

Some more LP astronauts new to the blog.

Here's a nice set of silver LP Space Men in a neat LP branded window box.

The background art looks like a lift of Bob McCall's.

The McCall imagery continues on the box rear with the super space plane.

Interestingly for SWORDies like me, the little craft zooming across the moonscape is the front cab from the Nuclear Ferry, which Bob McCall also painted. This links it to the box art of the Century 21 Toy Nuclear Ferry box!

THE TURNPIKE LINE

I love the American Sears Turnpike line of toys from the early Sixties.

They could have come straight off the set of Thunderbirds!

PANCAKE SATURDAY

There's no bread in the breadbin today so Missus Moonbase made pancakes for breakfast.

She's an early riser so the pancakes were stacked up by the time I got up.

Coffee. Pancakes with sugar. Mmmm. The food of the gods. Surely?

Do you agree, pancakes are the best?

CRICKET RACER

This little Spanish racer made me look twice. For a secundo I thought it was a SpaceX Cricket only green!

I was actually thinking of this proper green Cricket knockoff.

Have you got anything like this?

LIPSTICK LUNAR TRANSPORTER: CALAMITY AND RECOVERY

Disaster struck my lipstick transporter.

I thought I'd struck gold with these orange plastic ties.

But super-gluing them round the cockpit proved too much for my meagre skills. The glue has also fogged the inside of the translucent cockpit which there's nothing I can do about now.

It looked like a dog's dinner!

I ripped it off, cleaned off the dried glue and started again with the pesky cockpit border. 

In the end I used an elastic band. Not brilliant to look at but simple to use!

With a decent second wind I replaced the plastic exhaust with a metal one purloined from an old e-cig my Missus chucked.

I also began the chassis for the wheels using orange plastic from a Jaffa Cake box.

I also took Wotan's advice and ditched the original long nosecone and created a new shorter one using another Sharpie pen lid.

This session's efforts were rounded off with a metal ring edging the main fuselage,

the wheel braces and the wheels. Blimey!
