As Woodsy mentioned he hadn't seen Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's attempt at Supermarionation, here it is.

Wow. That is one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen - but very well done. Thank you for sharing that very weird piece of TV history.
ReplyDeleteYes, I love it. It's fairly well known amongst Anderson fans, and an excellent spoof from a surviving segment of the Not Only..But Also series from 1966.
DeleteShowing my age now, I actually remember that on the telly! - At the time it was a bit too satirical for my six or seven-year-old brain to handle!
DeleteOddly, it reminds me of the plot of the live action Thunderbirds film! Especially the bit about getting the vehicle out of the way, invading to the island and the confrontation with Brains!
Pete and Dud would be pleased!
How apposite! I'd just emailed Woodsie about war toys and the ping pong guns in Superthunderstingcar and here it is! The plane trundling along the sea bed is one of the Century 21 toys -the only one of that toy line i ever had!
ReplyDeleteSome nice toys press-ganged into service for this. The Fairylite Stingray is my favourite. The X toy you mentioned turned up in a few guises I seem to remember. It was reissued in black as a Batman toy during the sixties Batmania fad!
DeleteMany thanks for the link to Dud and Pete. I had forgotten all about that sketch which is as funny now as it was then.
DeleteAlways a pleasure to see it again, Terra, it's such a good parody isn't it. I reckon Pete and Dud were fans on the quiet!
DeleteWonderful bit of nostalgia! I managed to see this in the states somehow, maybe on a bootleg VHS tape? A wonderful and quite loving homage to the Supermarionation unviverse!
ReplyDeleteIt's a lot of fun , Zigg.
DeleteI have never seen this before, either.
ReplyDeleteI remember some of my schoolfriends telling me about it the day after it aired.
Watching it now, it reminds me of the "Mime Theatre Project" production "Thunderbirds - F.A.B." from the 1980s.
I wonder...
D.C.
While I never saw the actual stage show, the members of the Mime Theatre Project did perform an excerpt from it at one of the conventions I went to at the time. I can still remember seeing that huge Thunderbird 2 model sitting on top of one of their heads, while their hands simulated the jet exhausts!
Deletehttps://projectswordtoys.blogspot.com/2016/02/in-response-to-woodsys-post-about-dalek.html?m=1 For anyone interested in the Bazooka seen in the video, here's a post I did back in 2016 about toy Bazookas. The same toy did turn up on other TV shows, notably Here Come the Double Deckers, and The Avengers TV series.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting Scoop. Very funny!
