What do you say when someone asks you what your hobby is?
A collector? A modeller? A toy fan?
I ask because I was recently asked myself.

I can no longer post as myself, what has happened since I haven't signed out of Google. KevinD
ReplyDeleteJust checked, I am signed in.
ReplyDeleteBut I have to enter my name each time and my avatar has gone but it is still on blogger. I'm confused?
ReplyDeleteOh, interesting discovery, it works fine on Google chrome but not on my Samsung browser. No idea what that means.
ReplyDeleteAt this point in my life I admit that I am a hoarder. I always liked and kept toys, comic books and especially toy trains. Let's not even mention toy soldiers and other miscellaneous plastic objects.
ReplyDeleteThe collection of toy taxis goes back to 1965 when I bought and drove an old London cab when an art student. The fascination with the skill in sculpting toy soldiers both metal and plastic has been with me since the 1950's. The visual excitement in comics from Eagle, and humour from Beano are still with me.
My interests didn't rub off on my daughter, though in traveling around the world she does enjoy riding trains and trams and sharing that experience with me.
My grandson is too young to read but we do share an interest in toy trains, dinosaurs and cartoons.
I do like how you've described yourself Terran! A hoarder. Yes, that's me too. A hoarder of older things. Now I'm having to box everything up to allow decorators to decorate our house I'm questioning my passion for hoarding at the point in time though!

ReplyDeleteI like collecting anything that I feel a nostalgic connection with, Woodsy. Sometimes this can create a colourfully eclectic visual vibe around our home. I'm very lucky to have an understanding better half.
I imagine your home is a vibrant kaleidoscope of interesting objects Tone! It sounds great.
DeleteI am baffled by the recent problem with commenting, sorry Kev. I will post a question on the blogger help board to see if that sheds any light on things. It seems to me to be whether readers are signed into Google/ Chrome or not.
ReplyDeleteI am a modeller of aircraft and armour, and a collector of die-casts. With a few other bits and pieces as well.
ReplyDeleteCommenting is hard work, as there are several steps to go through, and the Comments are now totally separate from the original post you are commenting on, unlike before when the comments appeared on the same page below the post.
No idea if I am sighed in or not. I have to click on Name/URL and begin typing in my name, list appears, click on my usual version. Then Next, and Publish. Also click I'm not a robot. I do not have an insignia box.
I have certainly noticed that there are far fewer comments than before.
I didn't know you made models of armour Paul. Sounds interesting. I'm sorry about the comments issues. I have now returned comments to appearing below the post as they did before. Apologies for any confusion, I tried to change things for the better but it didn't work. The other issues seem to be more general issues with Blogger the blog company. If you have Google or Chrome you might consider signing in with them as Google owns Blogger. Beyond that I'm baffled as to why things have changed for some readers and not others.
ReplyDeleteIf it doesn't seem to pretentious, I describe myself these days as a artist. My hobbies, my collections, they are all part of the same wonderful nostalgia fuelled world of art that still inspires me and gives me a sense of wonder!
ReplyDeleteAn artist you are Looey!
DeleteThings are much easier now. Thank you. When I said armour, I meant tanks and other types of Armoured Fighting Vehicles, not suits of armour and the like. Hope that I did not confuse anyone.
ReplyDeleteFor me, modelling, collecting, history, photographing models, and writing about models are all part of the same world, as each one is linked to the others. Modelling is indeed an art, and it's fun.
You have such a wide range of modelling subjects Paul. Very impressive.
DeleteNobody has ever asked me about my hobbies. People rarely ask me anything about myself! i'm fine with that, though.
ReplyDeleteHave you a hobby Paul? It's a sad day when nobody asks anything personal!
DeleteI have to admit I am, indeed, a collector... of comics, books, DVDs, toys, CDs, vinyl. I don't seem to be buying as much lately, though. I enjoy making music - when I have the time - and if drawing wasn't my day job, I'd probably be doing it in my spare time, anyway. And thanks a lot for asking!
DeletePrefer to go by the title: ‘Archeologist of Childhood Relics’ ...but nobody calls me that as I swoosh plastic spaceships about the house...testing them for safety, you know.
ReplyDeleteha ha, I like it Charles. Maybe are just that, rocket swooshers!
DeleteI'm not a collector, though I have a modest vinyl collection of movie and TV music as well as 60s and 70s TV related annuals.
ReplyDeleteNor am I a hobby modeller, despite having a cupboard shelf full of half finished kits.
And I'm not a toy fan really, except for 60s and 70s Sci Fi toys of my childhood and youth.
Yet still I absolutely love this blog Woodsy.
Keep up the great work !
That last one was me, by the way.
ReplyDeleteNice one Mish! Thanks very much Mish!
DeleteI am most definitely a collector of O scale model trains, fortunately my interest is limited to certain railroads (the Boston and Maine RR, in particular) and 1930's era streamliners.
ReplyDeleteI also have a substantial collection of books pertaining to sailing and airships.
Fabulous interests Captain. I don't live too far away from the Doncaster Works which were famous for the Pacifics steam trains. Terence Cuneo painted them in the famous Giants Refreshed https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.travelpostersonline.com%2Fgiants-refreshed-doncaster-yorkshire-br-vintage-travel-poster-by-terence-cuneo-1947-1039-p.asp&psig=AOvVaw30rp2xrvNCYQh0xjOOTGDY&ust=1652606241318000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAwQjRxqFwoTCLDa1I_U3vcCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD
