Another food memory I have are crispy fish balls.
These crunchy mothers were small crispy battered balls of cod or haddock.
They were kept in the freezer and made by Birds Eye or similar and my Mum served them with home-made chip-pan chips and marrowfat peas.
I remember them being absolutely delicious!
Did you fish ball?
No fish balls for us Woodsy. We didn't have a freezer, or even a fridge.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I do recall some sort of crispy cheese balls. They were like a bit like cheese puffs today, but made out of a kind of savory ice cream cone like 'biscuit' with a pastey filling which was extremely cheese flavoured and salty.I think they came in bags, like crisps, and you got them from corner shops, pubs and cafes.
Mish.
We only had those foul minced fish in batter/breadcrumb balls. Horrendous things. Worse than Findus crispy pancakes. Bleagh!
ReplyDeleteMorrison's sell pork balls, which can be done in a microwave in around 50 seconds - absolutely delicious. Never had fish balls though. I didn't know fish had any.
ReplyDelete(Or it could be Morrisons' or Morrisons. Not sure which is right.)
DeleteMmm, pork balls sound great Kid. I sometimes get steamed pork dumplings at Chinese restaurants as a tasty starter. Yum!
