Its the end of an era for me. Cineworld has closed all its UK and US cinemas due to Covid.
I have been going to to my local Cineworld with a friend for years - maybe 15 or 20 - and during its orange Wednesday period we went every week. There was hardly any fantasy, horror and sci-fi we didn't see.
I'm really quite gutted its all over. Oh I know its meant to be a temporary closure but it feels like Cineworld has shut forever. The end of cinema-going with my film buddy.
Is the cinema near you still open?
My local Vue and Everyman cinemas are still open. With so few new films I'm not sure for how much longer though. With terribly unfortunate timimg Cineworld built a brand new cinema at the other side of the city that just opened last Christmas but that's closed again after just a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteYes that is bad luck for them Yorkie. For more cinemas I'd have to travel further and like you say not sure what would be showing. Arthouse and indy cinemas might fair better, showing old and independent flicks. If it goes on for years then I'll have to switch to them for my bog screen experience.
DeleteHere in Las Vegas the Regal Cinemas, which are part of Cineworld, have also closed. They say it is temporary but I don't know. There are 6 or so Regals around this area, most are at the casinos. I managed to get in to see the Empire Strikes Back, just 4 days ago, the same night it was announced on the news that they would be closing. It was great to see it on the large screen again!

Empire Strikes back sounds great Jim, I could do with some of that. Maybe that's the future, old films being shown at cinemas everywhere! There must be thousands to choose from!
DeleteHaven't been to "The Movies" in years. Two reasons. 1/ No new movies worth paying to see. 2/ Millennials yapping away and snapping pix with their cellphones. Nope, Cinema be dead for me! Thank goodness for DVDs and Streaming!
ReplyDeleteBet you remember the fleapits of Broadway though Zigg, the stuff of legend! I would have loved to have visited at least one showing a sleazy double bill of Andy Milligan flicks!
