I can honestly say that me and the Missus are at our happiest strolling round summer car boot sales and buying other people's stuff.
This morning's was no exception. Yes, the stark reality of the new normal intrudes but I quite like the strange comfort that the anonymity of my face mask, glasses and baseball cap bring. The mask helped with my bad hay fever too! Social distancing is out the window at these sales but with our masks on, although it seems a bit extreme, we feel OK to walk around at these open air sales. An indoor one would be difficult.
As always sunshine makes car booting special and summer car boots are the best. Many Sunday sales are now repeating mid-week and we may just take them up on this extra car booting offer soon.
Today's top purchase for me personally was a loose 2009 Playmobil fire engine. Since my Missus took me over to the dark side and introduced me to the sleek lines of Playmobil vehicles as toys for our Grandson I've been hooked. Both of us get to play! Our new fire engine isn't complete but for £1 who's complaining. It has a fully functioning ladder and working lights! We saw another ladderless one earlier and walked past it at £3 too!
A complete one would look like this as seen on Worthpoint.
Another small purchase was something I saw last week, a delightful but incomplete and old Bristol die-cast helicopter. There's just something art deco about this, deiselpunk almost. It was still nestling in a die-cast dealer's bargain box, which to be honest I could have bought wholesale. With indoor toy fairs a no-no at the mo he has lowered his prices a bit, spiced up his bargains and hit the outdoor car boots. A good idea if you ask me.
Here's a complete Bristol I saw online.
The Missus bought in lots of traditional stuff for Junior like a wooden yo-yo, lots of pirates, a bag of Grossery Gang figures and some step-walkers.
Things we looked at but put back on the stalls include the following based on what I can remember!
An old Action Man kayak by Cherilea, loose and playworn. This was in a case of new Action man clothes and figures, the only vintage item in there. I dallied and dithered and when I came back it was being bought from right under my nose with lots of modern Action Man stuff for a tenner. A good lesson for car booting, buy on sight!
Here's a complete boxed version I saw on Worthpoint. I love this box!
Moonshot caught my eye but I have so many board games I can't move in the attic. Its a tiddlywink variation with a crater as the bowl. By Guardsman games though I'm unsure of the date of this.
Here's a complete set on Kidipedia.
Finally, of what I can recall, we saw this huge steel Tonka fire engine. Those guys really made things to last!
Here's one on Ebay.
Would you have got any of this lot readers?
Have you been to any sales? Are they open in your part of the world?
