Being isolated gives you time to rummage.
Whilst looking for old TB2 parts I've dug out my framed Kung Fu collectables.
Here's the header card for a Kung Fu action cheapo figure I got circa 1973. I had thought I got it at the local Zodiac Toys store but it says A&O. Not sure where that was. May have been the large petrol station at the bottom of the road where I got my Kung Fu LP as well. Look at the price- 55p! Cheap as chips! Or should that be chops? karate chops!
The brand Jaeger I don't know at all but it's German for Hunter. I remember the figure was a basic articulated Action Man knockoff wearing a cheapo white cotton Karate suit. I loved that fella though. He went off to Shangri-La but I managed to keep the header!
I also managed to eat, I mean keep this Golden Wonder Kung Fuey snack bag. I don't recall the snack although bacon and mushroom is unusual snack flavour I think. The packet is remarkably clean and flat. I commend my younger self for such a fine job of archiving when I was all of 13 years old and growing bumfluff.
Both of these bits of high kickin' ephemera are stored in a picture frame, which has itself been stored in the loft and out of the light for 15 years! Before that they were kept in a bag weighty folder I made as a teenager for all my Kung Fu papers. One day I will show the world!
Do you remember these or any other Kung Fu collectables?
Wasn't there an iced lolly with a Kung Fu theme? Or am I imagining it? I've got the uncut version of Enter The Dragon on DVD - got it years ago and still haven't watched it yet.
ReplyDeleteYou must watch it Kid! I wonder what extras are on it?
DeleteThe Golden Wonder Kung Fuey packet must be such a rarity, Woodsy! Wish I'd have had that sort of foresight. I cringe to think how many long forgotten wrappers and empty packets I thoughtlessly binned over the decades. Amazing that you kept and preserved these ephemerals all these years :)
ReplyDeleteI kept everything to do with Kung Fu Tone. Fortunately its a lot of paper and I had the foresight to slip it all in a large card folder as a teenager. Despite moving across Europe I was always able to hoik it along with me right up to press in Moonbase. Its stuffed with paper cuttings, magazine articles, drawings, catalogue pages, pictures, stories, exams [yes, I set exams in Kung Fu for my mates!], plans and posters. One of my faves is a newsagents poster advertising the Sun with a picture of Bruce Lee on it! I wasn't able to keep all my beloved magazines but i do have a lot like the Kung Fu posters, Inside Kung Fu and Karate and Oriental Arts. I have all my Kung Fu books back as well now except for one on Seppuku [Hari Kiri!]. Happy high-kickin' times!
