One of my favourite classic Stingray toys. I had one as a youngster so its very nostalgic to me. This is one I picked up very cheaply a while back which was missing the ratemaster, and rear hydroplanes. I repaired it using retro parts from Graeme Walker at Toy Replicas.com.
Close inspection shows up the repair of course, but it still looks fairly reasonable on display, taking me right back to those far off childhood days.
This is how it looked prior to restoration.
I think Troy was lying when he said it was just like the real thing, but you've certainly done a first rate job in restoring it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kid.
DeleteI painstakingly restored one of these a few years ago for a fellow blog owner, who quickly sold it!
ReplyDeleteThat's a bit naughty.:(
DeleteI had a Fairylite too. The first time I saw a Lincoln Stingray (in 1981, I think) was at the London home of a slightly crazed Anderson collector, whose stash of original '60s toys was truly mindblowing. He also had the Sword Zero-X, all of the boxed Century 21 Thunderbirds, you name it. But not the Fairylite Fireball XL5... I'd have remembered that.
ReplyDeleteAh, the Fairylite XL5, a simple toy, but still a thing of beauty. Sadly I've never seen one in the flesh myself,Charlie, but I'd love one, of course. I should imagine sellers would be asking silly money nowadays.
