A few photos of Godzilla related models that formed part of the Sci-fi & fantasy Special Interest Group display at the Smallspace event.
I can't say I'm that familiar with the world of Godzilla, so with the help of mega Godzilla fan, Will Schwartz and Google search I got myself a bit of a monster education.
This great looking diorama obviously shows Godzilla in a Japanese countryside setting being attacked by a helicopter.
Watch out for that tail!
This is Godzilla showing a build up of radiation in his body as his heart is nearing nuclear meltdown, as seen in the 1995 Japanese film Godzilla vs. Destoroyah aka Godzilla vs. Destroyer.
What a cutie! Could this be a model of baby Godzilla aka Godzilla Junior or just a super-deformed Godzilla?
Here's Junior checking the rules.
He probably only reads Japanese!
This little beauty looks a small mechagodzilla inspired model.
Finally, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster who first appeared in the 1964 Japanese film of the same name. In that film King Ghidorah's attempt to destroy Earth is thwarted by Godzilla with help from fellow kaiju monsters, Roden and Mothra

Glad to see you are broadening your horizons,Scoop. The Kaiju universe is a great place for model enthusiasts.I have a few attempts of my own on display in my home office and they get lots of attention from visitors.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like it, Brian, I know a few readers are fond of the big cuddly monster. Unfortunately Godzilla and his chums have never really fallen into my sphere of interests. To my knowledge Its not something that was shown here in the UK, during my formative years so I imagine Godzilla's popularity here for folk of my age group is fairly limited. British film director, Alex Cox who is a big fan of the genre presented a couple of Godzilla films on BBC 2,possibly in the nineties which I did watch , one was Destroy All Monsters and the other was Invasion of the Astro-Monster, but it that's about it. When it comes to Japanese films, I have to say Atragon is certainly a favourite, principally because I remember watching it at one of the ABC children's Saturday morning film clubs during the sixties and being really impressed with the featured supersub, and The Green Slime, for its colourful dated look, and the Asteroid Lander aka Lunar Transporter. I never say never though, so I may delve again into the world of Kaiju as I do have an Ultraman VTOL Beetle kit waiting to be built. :)
DeleteI must admit I'm mostly in it all for the outrageous monster designs and action sequences, but,as I am older and more patient now I do give the human story some attention.
DeleteFantastic snaps Scoop and a pleasure for Kaiju fans like me and Brian and co! The models look really ace and the colouring too. the latest movie got some negative reviews but with Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan along with the Big G himself whats not to like! I can't wait to see it again!
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them, Woodsy, the models are excellent, and I know you like your Godzilla.
DeleteI haven't seen the any of the Hollywood Godzilla films, I'm afraid, but it sounds like you enjoyed them, so I wouldn't worry too much about negative reviews.
