Woodsy
A couple of piccies of the Batplane from 1976.
The box has a "C-globe" logo, the plane is marked Made in Hong Kong only with no item number.

Woodsy adds:
I once sold one of these chubby batplanes for a friend. It was loose and I'm pretty sure it was made by AHI. These are normally marked on the base "DC Comics Inc, Azrak Hamway Int. Inc.,New York, NY 10010, Made in Hong Kong No# 0265".
I've not seen a boxed AHI version, just the window carded rack toy batplane , but that's not to say there isn't a boxed AHI.
Here's the rack toy courtesy of the Auctionhouse LLC archive.
There is definately confusion out there among collectors about the boxed version.
Ten years ago the Batcave Trophy Room were amazed to see the C on the box being listed as Corgi on Ebay.
So, does anyone recognise the C globe logo on Arto's batplane box?
I really like of this type of vintage Batman toy, Woodsy. What a super example of the Batplane with its original box. I think it's simplicity and quirky shape adds to its appeal. A great piece to have in your collection, Arto.
ReplyDeleteSorry I can't add anything about the C globe logo? :)
Thanks Tony. It is intriguing that both issues (AHI and plain HK) were issued in the same year, and they both claim to be official as well with correct copyright and all. So perhaps they were aimed at two different markets. Could it be that the HK version was for non-US markets (Europe, UK), as is suggested - albeit rather vaguely - in the link above?
ReplyDeleteThat's a very plausible theory Arto. One which I hadn't thought of! Yes, it could, and probably does, explain why both issues claim to be official :)
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting isn't it. Is there any physical difference between the two issues Arto?
ReplyDeleteThey seem to be identical Woodsy, apart from the text underneath.
