I'm currently off work laid up with another of my Grandson's potent super-colds.
I'm as hot and dank as a Rancor's doo doo!
In between the sneezing I'm easing my mind with a good old search for lifted cover art. Whether its toy boxes or old pulp comics, its one of my fave pastimes!
The covers of the vintage Spanish sc-fi pulp Ciencia Ficcion [Science Fiction] published by Brugeura is a treasure trove of second-hand graphics - which I assume have nothing to do with the storie - and here's a few I snotted spotted today.
First up the big guns -
Thunderbird 4.
No idea of the original image. Have you?
Daleks!
I love this one!
Frankenstein from Edison's 1910 pioneering film.
Here's the original image!
I love these too and they featured in one of my most fave blog articles ever, Scary Monsters and Super Creeps by Wotan Bill B back in 2010. The original art was supposedly by Terrence Cuneo although I can't find it listed on his Wiki list of works! There is a signature on the second cover below but I can't read it.
This image I'm sure I know or at least the gaggle of ogres in it reminds me of something. I'm probably thinking of the brilliant Angelo Torres-drawn story Ogre's Castle buried deep in the pages of Warren's Creepy #2 from 1965 [you can read it on You Tube no less!]
Naturally there's some Star Wars too. Here's some Stormtroopers. But is it original?
... and a pretty cool scene of C3PO and Luke/Leiai wannabees in the desert. Not sure if 3PO is lifted. You?
This was fun.
At first I thought the lady was posed like Barbarella....
But then it dawned on me.
Raquel Welch in 10 Million BC!
Do you like lifted cover art readers?
Know of any on toy boxes, books, comics, film posters or LP covers?
I haven't seen any of these before, but what a fantastic compilation of cover art, Woodsy. I really like this sort of thing. Hope you're on the mend soon :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Tone. There are so many of the Spanish covers online. All part of my recovery!
DeleteI have to give a shout out to Thomas Edison's Frankenstein,Mr Edison being a New Jersey resident.Somewhere in my nebulous collection of monster toys is a Mezco action figure of that gruesome character!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe they made a toy version of the Edison Frankenstein Bri. That's just amazing.
