I knew Kevin's new Triceratops in the desert diorama [below] reminded me of something in my past. Its this magazine cover on Tomart's Action Figure Digest: Toy Fair 97 depicting a storm trooper riding a don't know what on the desert planet of Tatooine I imagine.
I used to love Action Figure Digest and bought a copy whenever I could. Tomart did a great job keeping us up to date with new toy action figure lines as well as describing vintage toys too.
One particular special issue was one of the first toy magazines I ever got in the 90's. I'll have to dig it out. I know its got a Ming the Merciless Defenders of the Earth serpent toy on the cover.
Did you get Tomart's Action Figure Digest mag? Is it still going?
Ha, you're right. If I'd had a stormtrooper figure I could've recreated that!
ReplyDeleteGet yourself a figure for riding those beasts Kev! ha ha. Major Matt maybe? Just found out what the Star Wars creature's called. I'll see f anyone else can come up with it before I let on!
DeleteI've looked around and apparently Tomart is no longer publishing this magazine.I have some illustrated guides by Tomart that I bought in the 90's. Although the prices are no longer accurate they are still of value for the excellent photos.I have used them to identify quite a few mysterious toys.I'm sure there's a photo of the "Dewback" that you're inquiring about:)
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame Brian. I thought Tomart were pioneers of inforing the general public about vintage toys especially action figures. Like Bill Breugman over at Toy Scouts Inc. I have a few Tomart illustrated books too and love how comprehensive they are. Which mysterious toys dis you find? Send me some snaps and lets see if MC readers can guess what they are too! And yes, you got it, the Dewback of Star Wars. Nice one.
