Will I'm chuffed! Armed with a bottle of Fruhli beer I've had a scout around for the reference to 'Operation Sword' online. And here it is! - in the Captain Scarlet TV episode 'The Shadow of Fear'! It aired in the UK February 2nd 1968 [a good 8 months after Project SWORD first appeared in SOLO comic]. You can here the phrase 'Operation Sword' early on circa 5.40 minutes and then several times in the two further installments of this video on Dailymotion.
Not quite 'Project Sword', its still nifty to hear this spoken on a Gerry Anderson TV programme. The story suggests that it refers to some sort of grand plan involving Mars, which is in itself rather Project Sword-like! But just what is 'Operation SWORD'? Can it be that it is actually connected to our very own 'Project'?
One initial observation is that it's Colonel White, the Spectrum Boss, who first talks about Operation Sword. The top ranked badge in the Project SWORD toys range, Supremo, is also white. Just coincidence?
PS. There's some humorous observations about his episode here. It refers to 'Operation Sword' as mysterious!
PSPS. and folk do get confused about this as seen here in this synopsis of the episode, where it mistakenly says "....Spectrum successfully completing the code-named "Project Sword" operation, but the whole carefully planned arrangement is placed under ..." [Alive Torrents]
PS3. and depending on what you think this means, another mistaken factoid from tv.com "Colonel White mentions an "Operation Sword", but this is never mentioned again." Does this mean in the same episode or the whole series? We know it's mentioned several times at the end of the episode so it's wrong. But is it mentioned ever again in the series? Now that I don't know. Is Shadow of Fear part of a trilogy? 'Lunarville'?

I am pretty sure "Operation SWORD" is never, ever mentioned in any other episodes.
