The problem with wandering round seaside shops is I'm always tempted to buy cheap novelty toys that catch my eye.

Bob's Lunar Rover Wheel

Woodsy,

As I convert my studio (winding down my toy business) from making my science fiction 1:6 scale action figures, to displaying my huge space toy collection, which now mostly resides in totes, I will take photos and send your way.

Besides the Spacex/Golden Astronaut scale space toys, I have a large collection of space rovers from world wide.

 I have numerous lunar/Mars habitat/base toys. Japanese Sci-fi space tank kits, robots, and custom made (Buck Rogers to 1950s to contemporary) space vehicles I made myself.

 Attached is a picture of a lunar rover wheel I just 3d printed this past week for a new design lunar rover I'm building for my grandson. I even made a special logo for it. See attached pictures.

I officially retired from Aerospace Electronics industry in 2015. Now space toys are my passion 😉

Re. Bob Burns, he's not well. He is in a care facility now. I am not sure who is administering the breakup up of his television/film science fiction prop collection. I've seen a few pieces go up for auction. It's too bad a museum couldn't have snatched up the collection in whole.

Terranova47's French Foreign Legion Figures and Diorama

Hello Woodsy

As those of us in the Northern Hemisphere enjoy the heat of summer and think of escapes to seaside and sand I sit in the heat of northern Connecticut and at least contemplate sand.

Not the sand of a beach but of the deserts of north Africa. I recently found a box of French Foreign Legion in uniforms appropriate for north Africa in the 1900's which I purchased to recreate one of my favourite comic strips of the 1950's,

LUCK OF THE LEGION in EAGLE comic.

I loved the colour illustration and stories, also bought the books containing novels of the characters. I had been given a number of Pulp Magazines by an older cousin which inevitably contained at least on FFL tale.

The movie with Ray Milland, 'Beau Geste' was great fun, a true adventure and over the years I have acquired reprints of the Sergeant Luck stories ....

and of some of the pulp stories. There is a lot of plot repetition in these stories and none really betters Beau Geste by P.C. Wren as a novel.

I still have my copy of 'The Reluctant Legionnaire' a true tale of helping a Brit escape from serving in the Legion which certainly put off any childhood plans to enlist!

Attached are first progress photos of the figures painted in the diorama, not finished but the best way to see where painting needs improvement.

Matlock Morsels

 Mooching round Matlock's vintage shops I saw this die-cast shelf. Pink Panther and the blue wheely thing, are they Kenner Revrods?

Two SPVs. Looks like one's been painted dark blue.

The bagged balloon car bottom left is interesting. Anyone know it?

Bong Moonbuggy here. Can you name the red game part used at the rear of it? (Quiz question). The Interceptor has been repainted too. The bagged car hung up top left is another one of those unusual balloon powered vehicles.

This would have been my take-away if I'd been spending, this amazing Mattel Wizzer Gift Set. I absolutely adore the boomer box art! I had a Wizzer as a kid, a fabulous weighted spinning top. Did you?

The Impossibles and Frankenstein Jr.

 

I don't think I had any toys from The Impossibles or Frankenstein Jr. As a kid. I did have the fabulous Impossibles Annual, which I've still got (a car boot copy!)

These figures I saw on Pinterest look modern to me, but I would have loved them back then. Frankie looks huge and really well made!

SPACEX VIBES

I'm currently having a few days holidaying in Majorca, and spotted these novelty pens in a gift shop.

With those little (retractable)wheels on the undercarriage,  and the swivelling engines, (with pull out rotors blades) I reckon they have a bit of a Spacex  Needle Probe vibe to them.

Apologies for the amateurish  photos, and not up to the standard I'd like as I only had my phone to hand, but hopefully you'll get the idea.
