Domed If You Do and Domed If You Don't

Waaaay back in 2011, shortly after starting the blog, I made a temporary space diorama using a clear acrylic dome I bought off of fleaBay. I used bits and pieces to emulate structures within the dome and just had a bit of fun with the whole thing.

COLOUR MY WORLD

 I occasionally like to pick up the odd vintage TV related colouring book along my collecting way, especially if it's one of the several  classic TV series I enjoy.

Painted covers are usually the draw for me (pardon the pun!), and more importantly, if they are under a tenner!

These are a few from my collection - I'll do some more later in the day.

ANOTHER STARGAZE

 As the night sky is fairly clear  tonight in chilly Southport, I seized the opportunity to do a spot of astrophotography before the looming clouds approached.

The Moon is always a  popular target for me. Tonight it's at its Waxing Crescent phase. I will try to get a few shots of the various phases as the month continues, weather permitting , of course.

As Jupiter is very prominent in the night sky, I thought I'd check it out even though my lens isn't capable of seeing any detail, apart from three of it's larger satellites.

The Atlantis U.S. Space Missiles Set

I mentioned this Atlantis set, M6871, some time ago. It is a re-issue of an old Monogram U.S. Space Missiles set from the 1960s, which itself was an up-dated version of the U.S. Missile Arsenal set first released in 1958.

Despite the name on the box, these are all military missiles, although a few were adapted for launching space satellites and even manned missions. All are U.S. types, but some were used by other countries.

You get 36 missiles, from small air-to-air and anti-tank types, up to Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles, so there is a wide range of sizes. The set is made to 1/128th scale - half of 1/64th - which was once used for larger aircraft types and missiles, but died out many years ago.

Two figures are included for comparison. These are only 14mm tall.

There are 69 missile parts, plus the two figures, in white plastic. A decal sheet is included for the various markings.

The angled display base is blue plastic, and has the name of each missile, its role, and operating service (Army, Navy, or Air Force) in raised lettering. Each of the assembly diagrams includes painting and decal placement instructions.

The base is 320 mm x 143 mm. Height once assembled is nearly 270mm.

Some of the missiles are one-piece mouldings (16); others have two parts (11); three (7); four (1). The most complicated model is the winged Bomarc, which has six parts.

There is a leaflet, reproduced from the Monogram kit, giving details of each missile type. The bottom of the Atlantis box also has a full-colour star field, against which to display the finished models.

Although rather on the expensive side, this is a really nice set, with a pretty full box. Much later, Monogram did a joint U.S. and U.S.S.R. Missile Display set in 1/144th scale, with 9 US and 11 Soviet missiles.

 I saw this Japanese novelty a while back on auction.

There's a strong resemblance to Thunderbird 1!

All part of the great Japanese love for Gerry Anderson and his shows.

Snowed-In in Shipley

I'm currently snowed in at the Grandkids' gaff. Schools closed. The hill's undrivable. The car's Snowbound. Cars attempting the hill road are skidding and burning rubber. Yep, it's winter in West Yorkshire.

JUNIOR'S ESCAPE RAFT

 Last week Junior had fun with LEGO.

He made up a story, The Esca[e Raft, around a couple of vehicles and played for an hour on the floor acting it out. I was so jealous! It was a joy to see!

My Dome is my Castle

I'm currently staying with my Grandkids and my Granddaughter's little fairy castle dome is a delight. It even lights up.

I didn't have anything inside domes when I was a kid.

The overall look of this one reminds me of a domed Star Wars ESB collection I once saw in a Pembroke toy shop. Quite a snazzy thing, which I blogged in 2016.
