PROBE 3 AND PROBE X: PEDAL TO THE MEDAL

 I mean Wow! This Probe 3 just bowled me over! Cor, how I would have liked one of those!

Less snazzy in my humble opinion is its stablemate Probe X with its steering wheel.

Time to Buzz the Tower

The much delayed sequel to Top Gun will be in cinemas shortly and the rather minimal range of toys are filtering into the shops. Chief amongst them are the small line of (Matchbox) Mattel Skybuster planes, a series which has been running since the seventies, now updated after Mattel took over Lesney.

Aside from the usual US Air Force fighters, there is the rather nice 'Darkstar' Stealth Jet, which presumably Tom Cruise as the eponymous 'Maverick' of the title, gets to save the world in.

It clearly takes its cue from the many previous stealth concepts, but opts for more streamlined edges than the current stealth profiles. There's no visible cockpit, so we can expect tight 'in the helmet' close ups of Cruise as he piles on the machs in an enclosed space.

The model itself is very minimal, with no moving parts or opening hatches, but does come with a low stand, which is a nice bonus as theres no landing gear!

DR.DEADLY JOINS MONSTER BASE

Hi Woodsy.

The previous snowfall had me cooped up for the weekend, so I decided to build a model kit.

Here's Dr Deadly, an Aurora Monster Scenes character re-issued by Moebius. My usual disclaimer; I am not a professional modeler nor do I claim to be.

These kits were around when I was a kid, but painting them was a little beyond my capabilities.

I am thrilled that I have the chance to try them again with a grown up perspective. I have already built the good(?) doctor's creation, the Giant Insect.

Slip Wing Hurricane and Other Oddball Planes

Hi

         I think the Slip-wing Hurricane may have been mentioned before on Moonbase Central. It was certainly a strange aircraft. A normal Hawker Hurricane fighter fitted with a jettisonable second wing.

Here is a short You Tube programme on the Hillson FH.40 Slip-wing Hurricane, and the earlier Hillson Bi-mono, which had been built to try out the idea.

Now a look at the Russian Nikitin-Shevchenko IS-Series of Polymorphic Fighters, which means they could assume different forms - biplane or monoplane, for take-off and landing, or combat. Weird - one would think the extra weight would cancel out any possible advantages.

ZERO-X INSIDES

 I've been photographing the insides of some Century 21 Toys Project SWORD toys for a reader.

One was the fabulous Zero-X.

Here's the outer box.

The inner packaging.

The contents [not original inner packaging].

The white Supremo badge in its tissue.

The inside of the MEV.

The workings of the motor.

This long metal piece with a black plug popped out. Its attached to a wire. Unsure what it is.

The same for this long strip with an eye hole. Again wired. No idea what this is. It maybe linked to the above.

There's also a hole on the inside and a corresponding hole on the baseplate beneath the top left screw. What's that for? oil?

Any ideas?
