I think the Slip-wing Hurricane may have been mentioned before on Moonbase Central. It was certainly a strange aircraft. A normal Hawker Hurricane fighter fitted with a jettisonable second wing.
Here is a short You Tube programme on the Hillson FH.40 Slip-wing Hurricane, and the earlier Hillson Bi-mono, which had been built to try out the idea.

Now a look at the Russian Nikitin-Shevchenko IS-Series of Polymorphic Fighters, which means they could assume different forms - biplane or monoplane, for take-off and landing, or combat. Weird - one would think the extra weight would cancel out any possible advantages.

My grandfather's cousin was Neil Williams who was a stunt pilot,in the 60's he was 4th in the world flying the Belgian Stampe biplane, it didn't fathom to me that a biplane should be more agile, but more wings equals more lift despite the drag and a top speed of 120mph,it still blows my mind!!
