I dug this JAWS 2 crisp packet up in the 90s near our house. The dog sniffed it out.
I had a big pile of packets and ephemera like this in my old toy stall.
It's old but not as old as my Golden Wonder Kung Fuey snack bag from the early 70s. I scoffed the bacon and mushroom snacks and framed the empty bag at the time.
The packet is displayed with my Jager Toys Kung Fu doll header card. I think it was a simple hollow plastic 12 incher with a basic cotton karate suit and belt.
Sadly the doll walked.
Did or do you have any interesting crisp or snack packets?
I collected Cadburys Monster Bars when I was a kid and the plastic sticks off Code Breaker ice lollies and Dalek Death Ray ! Bill
ReplyDeleteThey sound ace Bill. Alas, I recall none of them!
DeleteI have no idea if I kept any wrappers, but here in the US the UK Daily Mirror comic strip, ANDY CAPP was syndicated and there was a line of Andy Capp potato chips (crisps) and a strange shaped crisp shaped as a French Fry (Potato Chip). They are now sold as Andy Capp's Hot Fries.
ReplyDeleteWow, they sound good Terran! We had an Andy Capp bubble bath statue on the mantlepiece when I was a kid and on the other side was a statue of Harold Wilson, the two pillars of British Sixties society!
DeleteThose Andy Capp fries are a snack I've been eating my whole life. Its surprising to experience a person who hasn't tried them.Theyre made with potatoes and corn with a texture more akin to a puff, like Cheetos. The plain flavor is simply called Pub Fries, and there is also cheddar fries and the popular Hot Fries. The Hot Fries bag features Andy with steam coming out of his ears!
DeleteCorrection. All flavors now have the same image of Andy Capp. The comical Hot Fries image has been discontinued.
DeleteSo do eaters still know who Andy Capp is Brian?
DeleteI do.Cant vouch for others.
DeleteOne of the things I really missed when I left England was Golden Wonder Crisps!
ReplyDeleteThose wacky flavours like Baked Beans were nowhere to be found in Australian stores. Plain, Chicken, Salt & Vinegar and Barbecue types were the only ones available.
Oh how I pined for Smokey Bacon or Tomato Sauce flavours!
When I visited the UK last year I found the flavour varieties a pleasure, even a Marmite type!
I know what you mean Looey. For me Salt and Vinegar is king, esoecially a brand called Squares, which are extra crunchy. When we go to Germany the number one flavour is paprika and crisps are sold in huge bags!
DeleteGood grief, those are some weird flavours. I like the plain Salted type, crinkle cut. Chicken, or Sour Cream and Chives are also popular flavours in NZ.
ReplyDeleteThere is now a brand in NZ called Great Uncle Kenny's Amazing Snacka Changi Chips, which have great pulp style artwork. Worth getting just for the packets. Made from 100% free range non-caged potatoes.
That is the longest snack name ever Paul!
