Being a fan of old film tech I was sorely tempted by this vintage Sony Betamax VCR I saw in Shipley.
Looking like something out of a space station it was huge too. The price of £100 was more than I could justify as well. I have very few Betamax tapes.
A gorgeous thing.
Do you like it? Have you any old tech like this?

A friend of mine had a Betamax machine in the 1990s - even then there were hardly any around, and you just never saw the tapes.
ReplyDeleteIve been collecting video tapes for decades and only ever found a few Betamax Paul.
DeleteThat one looks more sophisticated than the average domestic one of the time. It says 'pro' on the label, I think it might be correct!
ReplyDeleteYes, it looks professional Kev deffo.
DeleteOnly in Shipley Woodsy, only in Shipley !
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Yep, what a town! Love the charity shops.
DeleteBetamax was technically superior to VHS, but Phillips were just a bit slow to get it to market. Bill
ReplyDeleteNever seen a Betamax film playing Bill.
DeleteMy first ever movie tape was Alien on Beta (it was the better system!) Eventually I had to switch to VHS to get the content!
ReplyDeleteWow, ALIEN! Have you still got it Looey?
DeleteThat is a Sony DVW-A510 digital VCR. Indeed a top of the line model.
ReplyDeleteFab Anon. Are you into video?
DeleteI don't remember seeing Betamax vcrs in shop windows....the first vhs player I used was a JVC, which 5 of us students rented from Currys in 1983 (I cant remember the rental price, but the retail price for the player was £899.99)
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Videos were super dear too back then, thats why we all had to rent them!
