I had the pleasure of visiting it too and it was a fabulous building. It's essentially the archive for all material that are no longer on show, or cannot be easily displayed. They had the archive for one of the major games manufacturers tucked away in there, stacks and stacks of Victorian taxidermy, boxes of preserved insects, vintage and antique clothing and many many items of social history ephemera. A brilliant day out and well worth a look. Bill
I once visited Sydney's Powerhouse Museum stack on one of it's few open days. Situated about 40km from the actual museum, it contains stuff not on display. I remember being excited at seeing a 1/25 scale cutaway model of a Constellation in Qantas livery. I hadn't seen this transparent beauty since it had been on display in the 70's!
Display models of airliners just don't seem to be a thing these days... Sigh.
Never heard of a museum repository being open to public. Is that common?
ReplyDeleteThat 1952 first edition of the Moomin board game is a rarity. The board drawn by Tove herself was redrawn by her brother for later editions.
Yes, I had you in mind when I spotted it Arto! It's a great facility. Unsure if it's common.

Sounds great Looey! I remember Airfix planes and airliners being hung from my brother's ceiling with cotton! Those were the days!
