Sorting out my load of Jokimaa car boot sale finds, I wanted to share with you this most interesting discovery and a bit of HK toy salvage - A 747 See-Thru Jumbo Jet!
Made by a Hong Kong manufacturer SN with item number 308 C, the Jumbo Jet has folding wings to fit it into the window box with an illustrated airspace insert.
The see-thru section of the two-floor cabin shows both passenger seating and upper lounge area.
This particular example seems to have been a salesman's sample, judging from the partially removed sticker on the box header.
I just love the idea of see-through / cross-section toys. Puts me instantly in a Nuclear Ferry mode! Enjoy!

That's really a cool version of the Jumbo Jet Arto! As a kid I had always wanted the see-through airliner as well as the submarine, but alas, looking at Sears Christmas Wishbook catalogs was the closest I would come to it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ed, we share the same fascination!
DeleteLovely vintage HK Jumbo, Arto. Even the box and inner packing are captivating.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree Tony, they put a lot of effort on cheapo toys too. The result is really captivating!
DeleteThis example has TWA markings, but it seems there was variation regarding different carriers

Just curious, what about the sticker would lead you to believe this is a salesman's sample?
ReplyDeleteA typed standard white sticker with what I believe to be wholesaler's information. These come up from time to time.
DeleteThanks, I have noticed similar markings on a number of second hand merchandise and thought nothing of it.
DeleteThat is a great toy. What a wonderful find.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul, much appeciated!
ReplyDeleteRegards, Arto
DeleteThanks for sharing this classic plastic Arto!
ReplyDeleteAs an air stewardess would say - We aim to please!
DeleteWow! That takes me back to my childhood and seeing a cutaway 747 nose model in a Central London travel agency...
ReplyDeleteI've tried Googling it, but I can't find the exact model. This was 1/32 or 1/24 scale with a perspex half hull. There was an almost full compliment of passengers, crew and baggage below decks.
I think it was Pan Am, but I can't find anything close on the web...

That must have been an impressive sight for a young boy, Lewis. Great cutaway photo!
