Hi Woodsy, as a quickie response to your recent Dunked post, here's something cobbled up with the finds of last weekend, let's name it 20,000 Leagues Under the Bering Sea!
I agree Paul, the crew is in deep trouble, literally so. The monster is an unmarked vintage (probably HK) octopus. The sub is an USSR souvenir modelled after the Soviet S-56 (C-56) submarine.
Wow! Cool submarine, and that is THE creepiest toy octopus I’ve ever seen! It would scare the living daylights out of any self-respecting eight year-old! SF_Z
Hi - Nice display Arto - just to let you know the "octopus" is actually the head from the "Nolach The Kaldane" figure in the Trendmasters "Tarzan Conqueror of Mars" line (also available in a 2 pack with Dejah Thoris in the "Tarzan The Epic Adventures" line also by Trendmasters). I've only got the former but it's a nice figure and reprsents the novels quite well (it never appeared on screen as far as I know). A quick Google (Nolach Tarzan toy) will show more but esentially the head (removable on the toy) is the life form which rides on a Zombie-like body. Looks like your mixed bag find decided to splash out on his own ! Regarding the lack of makers mark, I have seen cheap Bootlegs of this (and more of the line) in several European countries in the 1990's. All the best from The Tracey Archipelago - John Swan
Hey John, nice to hear from you! Hope you're OK. If you ever get chance could you send in some more pics of your Lunar Climber please? It's such a fab toy and a blog legend!
It does not look as though the crew of that submarine are going to last long. What is the monster ?

ReplyDeleteThank you for the information. That is a pretty horrific octopus.
ReplyDeleteVery creepy looking beastie that Arto! Perfect quick movie scene. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteThanks SF_Z, I was chuffed to spot the octopus in a mixed bag of vintage figures and animals. It really stood out!

DeleteWow John, you cracked the mystery! Thanks ever so much! That explains also why there is no separate maker's mark on the Kaldane.
ReplyDeleteThere's a great YouTube tutorial here

So my cute octopus turns out to be a real Martian monster! I think I'd better remove it from my bedside table as it's on the lookout for a new host!
