Since childhood I've always liked classic horror monsters. So, in the spirit of Halloween, here are a few pics of my 1/6 scale, Monster Files (number 2), 'The Were Wolf', produced by Coomodel.
Whilst this modern action figure is designed as an adult collectible, it successfully connects to the enjoyment of the toy Mego monsters and Aura model kits I played with and enjoyed as a kid.
The large boxed set, illustrated with vivid graphics, includes interchangeable heads, limbs and accessories. This gives options for displaying the figure as human, partially transformed, or in full raging lycanthrope form. The set also comes with an atmospheric diorama display stand, a brooding card backdrop and comic storybook.
If I'm critical, I'm not a fan of the enigmatic anime inspired human head sculpt. I may have felt different if I'd been able to translate the comic book and learn the backstory of the character. That aside, I'm totally in awe of this savage Were Wolf's aesthetic. From its contemporary styling, to it aggressive presence, it's a beast which strikes terror on to the plastic hearts of my older action figures. Even the veteran battle hardened boyz from Palitoy are breaking out the silver bullets in fearful anticipation of the next killing moon.
Others in the stylised 1/6 scale 'Monster Files' line-up include; Frankenstein (monster), The witch, The Mummy and The Vampire.
Happy Halloween, spooksters.

What a terrificly terrifying photo story to send chills down my spine, just what is needed on this Samhain night. Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Arto. Happy Samhain night to you over in Helsinki Base.
ReplyDeleteWu! Wu! Wu! Even comes with his own manga comic! A lovely total package, with beautifully rendered clothing too! That's what I'd call an Art Toy because it's taken it's source inspiration and the produced something that is original, rather than just a reproduction.
ReplyDeleteI ran out if time again, this Halloween. I really want to make some Art Toys inspired by the classic Aurora monster kits. Sharp eyed readers of my Skeletag post might see a pale blue Witch version of my own character. Next year for sure, i will have a Werewolf, Mummy and F****stein version of her ready, so she can go trick or treatin'!
Looking forward to seeing your Aurora inspired Werewolf, Mummy and Frankie next year.
DeleteAmazing photo-tale Tone and thanks for sharing. What a fabulously furry figure full of gruesome possibilities. You've captured the spirit of the toy brilliantly. Why do you think they went for such an odd face on the young man? and how did you get the shot with the American Werewolf in London poster in the wall? Superb, all in all a howling success!
ReplyDeleteThanks Woodsy. To be honest, I know very little of the company, other than their 1/6 Monster File characters are very stylized and often seem to break away from the traditional codes and conventions we come to expect from our traditional monster line-up. They're well worth checking out on-line, just to make up your own mind about the pros and cons of each monster figure, Woodsy. Incidentally, Coomodel have also produced a couple of variations of the Werewolf in the smaller 1/12 scale, but without the interchangeable human parts. Alas, the movie poster on the wall was just the smoke and mirrors of photoshop. No real skill I'm afraid, but I love the movie and wanted to give it a respectful nod :)
